Caldera
Anyone who has played single player knows that kyle gets some light side and some dark side force powers. Now, untill i played this game's single player, i thought it was all dark or all light. However, we have Kyle here choking people to death, and then healing himself, and still seeming to be quite sane. What do you guys think? arent all dark force power guys a bit corrupted and looney because of the dark side? Palpatine was alright in EP 1 but he gets umm...unstable as the series continues. So do you guys think it is possible to use both light and dark side powers with regard to EU and/or the movies? Or is it just a forced design to allow flexible gameplay in JK2? Pedantic
Palpatine? Alright? I saw that crooked little smile on his face in Episode I.
Vestril
Actually Palpatine should theoretically be a bad guy all through, he just hides it early on... Also the Force powers aren't light or dark, its the Force itself, we see Luke choke gamoreans in RotJ, and he isn't crossing to the dark side, its just a tool. To be using the Dark Side you have to be acting out of anger. The only thing that doesn't really fit with a light Jedi is Force lightning, that is a strictly evil attack as it saps the life out of someone and causes agony and pain, a Jedi who was acting of the light Side would find a more expediant and less...evil way of doing this anyway, here is Starwars.com's opinion on the matter... Lightning bolts spawned from pure evil tore into Luke's body with searing pain. and the link to the page for those who want some context... http://www.starwars.com/databank/character/darthvader/index.html

However, you said that Lightning was specifically dark side because it was painful.... well choking isn't exactly a walk in the park. I think the key thing is that the power is used in a manner befitting the light or dark side of the Force.

I should have been a little clearer when I made my post, Lightning causes excessive and uneccesary pain, and is, according to Starwars.com derived of pure evil. If this doesn't make it of the Dark Side...well heck:p. It would be impossible to use Force Lighting to serve the light side of the Force, because it's inherently evil. Caldera
He chokes a Gam gaurd???NO way!!! Oh man i gotta see this! What a perfect time too, its showing tonight on fox(kickass!). But if indeed the force has no specific 'powers', then it is very good for me. You see, i like the light side, and i dont want to be a looney emperor, but i really really like force choke. Like REALLY. I dont know why, but when some stupid bounty hunter or Gran starts talkin smack to me, i wanna choke the crap out of him and toss him aside. I dont see how this is different than pushing them off a cliff or pulling them into a wall of spikes. However, your idea is very sound, and i believe that there are no specific force 'powers'. About lightning, i think dark rage would fit into that too. I mean, the name says it all lol. Excellent explanation, thank you for clearing that up for me! Kurgan
Yeah, I mean the Jedi aren't supposed to use the force "for attack" right? But they still kill constantly, and they use the force to help them kill, maybe the force isn't the "direct" cause of the kill. Like Luke throwing his saber. Still, I think it depends on how the person uses it, not so much that they use it. I wonder if we'll see anybody throw some "light side lightning" in the prequels? Probably just as likely as seeing a bad guy with a green saber....
Thrown Saber
Yeah, and in Jedi Knight, we see Sariss with a blue saber and Yun with a yellow. There's no reason for a Dark Jedi to not have a (stereotypically) "light side" saber colour. Who knows? A Jedi might have a "dark side" saber colour like red. Vestril
When they made Jedi Knight they didn't have the advantage of Lucas's quote on the matter, at that point coloration was just a preference thing...
Medivh
In Jedi Power Battles for the Playstation, Plo Koon (sp?) can use force lightning, and he is a light side master. Perhaps light side force users can use lightning, they just have to be like a powerful master.
Vestril
...and you can use it in Jedi Outcast, I'm just suggesting that according to the movies, thats wrong. The thing is that its a cool power, so they want to include it in games, which is why they let good guys use it. I doubt they thought heavily about whether or not it was a light power, when they made the game.
Caldera
Just saw RotJ again ^_^ oh man that last part with vader and luke is so emotional. I thought i wouldnt really be effected but *sniff* it was so moving. And yes, i noticed that he does choke 2 Gammorean gaurds, which means it is not really a dark side 'force power', i guess it is how you use it that matters. I was so happy to see Anakin Skywalker standing at the end with Yoda and Obi - wan...just shows how good these movies actually are... Or shows how long its been since i saw them This is me after Rotj => :ball: :ball: :ball: PS: About the lightning, it is definately completely dark power skill. Usually games are pretty credible, but who can resist sneaking in cool moves like lightning I have read the EU books in the Thrawn series, where C'baoth(dark jedi master) uses lightning, and it is explained in alot of detail about the unbearable pain it is caused by the burns and the bolts. It is DEFINITELY no light side power (as far as the EU and the official canon are concerned).

How exactly does that make sense? Thats like saying to Bill Gates 'If you're so rich, why don't you give everyone in the world 100 Billion Dollars?' I'm pretty sure his answer would come in the form of a late night beating...
