Help!

I updated vid drivers in hopes to kill the horrible laginess in sound and video in the 3rd level (mines).

I try to run single player, and right after it goes through all the yellow text black background console stuff i get this:

The Exception Priveleged Instruction.

(some Hex numbers)

Click OK to exit or Cancel to debug

Help? I upgraded to the 28.32? Whatever is on the Nvidia site.

Then I tried the 28.90 same thing.

And if you cant fix that, at least tell me if you can fix why the Mines screw up so much, the first levels didnt. I have tried the fastest graphics mode, the best looking and everything in between, no go.

SPECS:

450 AMD K6 II

352 MB mem

GeForce2 Pro

SB Live Value

You forgot which OS you have, but if its w2k or XP, go to guru3d.com and get the hacked version of the 28.32's, there is aproblem with refresh rates and these drivers under those OS's.

If you have a win 9x based system, check your monitor and make sure it is installed IE does not read unknown. If it is not installed, install it.

Wild guess is you might have some background program interfering with JK2. Have you tried killing everything off and running it?

Alternatively there's something about Win2k and XP not installing driver versions correctly, and requiring you to extract them, select Win2k compatibilty mode and installing then (or something like that, I have 98SE myself and don't have this problem). Check other posts if someone else watching can't give a better explanation.

Dude,

I have the same problem and totaly different setup:

PIII 450

448mb ram

win2k

voodoo 5500

dx8.1a

40gb hd

soundblaster live w/ latest drivers

I also scoured the posts for similar issues and came up with only non-working workarounds posted by every geek and their brothers.

This is a problem for the developers and producers of the game to get to work on... good luck there. :swear:

I've seen similar new fps games hum pretty well on my box, but this one and Max Payne gave me similar slowdown issues. Maybe there is too much texture info and sound for a last generation processor and video card to handle... but to be honest with you, I've seen better games run faster.

Nope! Aint buyin it! (The game, or the excuses?) HEHE

I guess thats one way to rationalize it.

Could some expand on the second part of sutek's post?

Were you logged in as administrator when you installed or tried to run the game? That could be the problem .

As for sutek's solution you can find a step by step guide here:

http://www.techspot.com/tweaks/win2k_compatiblity/index.shtml

You should also use this driver :

http://205.158.109.140/Windows/23.11/Win2K-XP_23.11.exe

rather then the newest drivers ( theres a post from Raven about the drivers somewhere in this forum) .
