MatrixCPA
If it's a pure server, you and the server both need to have the skins installed. That's really all you need.
Indy4
how will i know if its a pure server?
MatrixCPA
You can check the server info. Just look for the sv_pure setting. If it's 1, then it's pure. If it's 0, then it's not.
AtomicRoach
I run a server, and it is NOT pure. I have downloads turned ON. Still cant see customer skins though. Any ideas? I don't know much about JK servers yet - but I would think the skins get sent up to the server and then down to everyone else, right? So everyone wouldn't already have to have the skin to see it. MatrixCPA
Personally, I don't recommend running an unpure server unless you're willing to accept the risk that people use wall hacks and other cheats on your server. You need to understand that clients do not upload their custom skins to the server and servers do not download their custom skins to the clients. Only maps are automatically downloaded. So, if you want skins on the server, you need to put them there yourself and if clients want to use/see the skins, they need go get them and install them themselves. There is no way to FORCE a client to download anything and the only thing you can download to them is maps. If a map happens to contain custom skins, they will receive them--but that's not really a solution. In the end, the point here is to allow clients who don't want to deal with all the custom skins the freedom not to do so. If they don't have the skin, they'll just see the player in a default skin. AtomicRoach
Ok.. I thought with a PURE server you could not use any custom skins... which, IMO, takes away some of the fun of the game. (the whole cheat thing aside) But, if all i need is to have them installed, that's cool with me. Roach
MatrixCPA
Pure just means that the clients can only use files which match those installed on the server--including custom skins, etc. The client can have things installed that aren't on the server. They just can't use them.
