I can't test my .bsp

Hi everyone, I'm new here and needing help (I was making maps for Doom and Duke Nukem 3D, heh... thats's old :)).

I managed to compile a simple MP map, and got a bsp file named "duel01j.bsp". It is located in gamedata/base/maps.

Good.

The problem:

impossible to test it!

I run the MP game, and type "devmap duel01j" in the console, and the game only tells me that this map doesn't exist!

I installed JO in the usual path (well, I only changed the drive... D: instead of C: ), and installed JK2radiant without any problem.

I even tried to put the map in C:\Program Files......\maps after creating a mirror of the directories tree of JO. Doesn't work.

I've searched in several forums and found no help about this, am I forgetting something simple and stupid? :p

If someone has any idea, please help!

Thanks.

Obviously you didn't search hard enough cause this has been answered numerous times....

...pk3 your map and put it in the base dir. If you need more info, search the forum or read some tuts.

Also i've been testing my maps with the command "map "mapname"" instead of using the devmap command with no problem. At least I know this works for me for SP maps, haven't tried and MP map yet.

I dont know if this has been mentioned or not, so plz forgive (or flame away :p)...

You cannot be in another map when you pull down the console and type map mapname unless you have pak'ed the bsp beforehand. You have to run the command from the console while sitting at the main menu. At least, that's what I'm seeing on my end.

Yep, PainGod, you're right... I was trying to access my map after creating a game on ffa_bespin.

I didn't know that I could access the console on the main screen.

That's ok now, thanks a lot for your answers guys.

he has a large point there... many of the newbie questions can be found in the sticky threads at the top of the forum.

Also a good technique is just to do a Text Find (CTRL-F in IE) on the front page and search for a key word that you're seaching for... then click on the the Next Page and search again... like if you want to make glass, do a text search for glass on the second page, if you find nothing, click next page and do it again.

Not hard, guys. :D

You DO NOT need to pak your map to test it. First type

sv_pure 0

then

devmap mapname or map mapname

and you have access to your map. If you want to see it in the menu, you must create a scripts directory under your base directory and put your arena file there. When you launched jk2 bring down the console and type sv_pure 0. Then go through the menu and select your map(if your .arena file is correct it will show up). It will load.
