Cowface
I just recently got a new computer with Jedi Outcast (Good birthday). It didnt originally come with a good 3D card, so I went out and bought one. I got a Hercules 3D Prophet 4000XT 64mb card. It looks good and everything, but the game runs very choppy. Almost unbearably. Anybody know what I can do to fix this? (Yes. I've tried putting everything at Low qaulity. It still runs slow and choppy) The game also seems to be loading really slowly. Not sure if its related or not, though. My Computers Specs: Pentium 2, 128 RAM and around six gigs of hard drive space.
Sutek
What's the processor speed? Mine clocks in at 400, and the game runs...OK in the first level and then turns into mud on the entrance to the Artus Mines. Is this where you are having problems? I also have a touch more RAM than thee - 256Mb, but your graphics card is better. I'm inclined to go with your processor not quite being up to snuff (I'd hazard my guess at 450?) though. Cowface
How do I check the processor speed? I really dont know much about computers. When I hit the "anaylze computer" Help option on the Jedi Outcast CD, it says "CPU: 350". Is that what you're talking about?
Deetox187
That is what he's talking about, and that is also why your game runs choppy. The best video card in the world wouldn't run jk2 good on a p2 350mhz, it's just too slow.
Cowface
Ah. Well, is it possible to update the CPU or processor speed or whatever? Or do I just need a whole new motherboard or something? Eh... also, how much money would updating the CPU or processing speed be and how high should I update it... if its possible...?
j3i)1_/\/\4574
Depends on your motherboard. You may be able to pick up a PIII or Celeron in the 1000mhz range, if you need a new motherboard, then an athlon processor might be cheaper. The CPU is definatly the biggest bottleneck of that system, but if you have extra cash, a bit more RAM would also help:)
Cowface
Sooo. How can I tell if I can even update my current mother board? And what sort of price range am I looking at for a Pentium III? Also, how much does a whole new motherboard cost? Am I able to switch motherboards without getting a whole new computer? I dunt have much money. teleguy
You can look for a fast cpu (e.g. Celeron 1.2Ghz ) that fits into your old motherboard (you don't have to replace it) here http://www.evertech.com or here http://cpuupgrade.com ( german site) email: support@cpuupgrade.com A new motherboard would give you more performance though.
