MatrixCPA
Dunno what to tell you. I'm not going to run a ded server through the mp game any time soon. Until they release the ded server binaries, I'm stuck at 1.02c.
Dominator
my dedicated server crashes on startup now too. Basterds. I have not a\had a problem with my config either. So it is the patch. Please moderators inform the proper ppl so they can fix this.. My server is always full.. Now those ppl don;t have a good server
MightyPez
My server crashes as well. Fortunately, I can get into the normal game menu without a openGL compliant graphics card! It's slow on the interface, but when i hit begin it goes to the normal dedicated server screen. For now that will have to do.
JediGhost[SITH]
So switch back to 1.02A? It's as simple as that, correct? That's what I did.. All's you gotta do is run ur server from Jk2, not the 1.02C...
Aerys
I don't have the time or patience to uninstall and reinstall everything right now. Maybe I'll do it tomorrow. Maybe I won't.
JediGhost[SITH]
Uhh... What uninstalling? Start JK2, and click Create Server. It's that simple, don't even run the 1.02C.

Yeah we are talking about dedicated servers, but thats not a bad solution till we get a 1.03 server.

Aerys
My server machine does not have the graphics card to support the "create a server" method. I am going to test what another person suggested, running the JK2mp.exe with the dedicated server command line options. That looks promising. Razz
If you're going to run the jk2mp.exe then you need the cd in the drive for it to work. Most people don't have this so gfg Raven/Lucasarts :/
TheDarkSide
If you're going to run the jk2mp.exe then you need the cd in the drive for it to work. Most people don't have this so gfg Raven/Lucasarts :/ I assume 'gfg' is something derogatory, but if so, does this mean that you want Raven to cater to pirates and warezers? What is the "this" you refer to, the CD or jk2mp.exe? In either case if you obtained your copy legally, you'd have both! I'm running a ded. server right now by going firing it up in game. I feel the pain of those who don't have a vid card to run jk2mp.exe on their dedicated box, but that would be the only pain I'd be feeling, not for warezers who can't run a ded. server because the patch for a game they didn't buy prevents them from doing so. I am sure 1.03 dedicated server .exes will be released in the very very near future.... TDS
Jasco Smlee
I normally play on my dedicated server over my lan, so I need my game cd in my own box! With the server binaries you don't need the cd in the drive to run a dedicated server. You do need a full copy of the game though 'cos the server binaries don't come with the .pak files. I have tried using jk2mp.exe with command line options, but it still asks for cd. Looks like I'll have to burn myself a copy for the time being. Well, since a large number of servers run under linux, the dedicated server is our only option. On top of that, you have a good number of admins who only have remote access to their server. So, despite the fact that both these groups of admins have bought the game--there's no way for them to comply with the "cd in the tray" requirement. If you feel that this group of people shouldn't run dedicated servers, I think you'll find a LOT less servers out there to play on.
TheDarkSide
You are right CPA. I totally forgot the linux angle. I have been in anti-warez mode for a while and throw in the complaining/whining in the other forums and I went on auto-pilot. My apologies. I'm all for getting as many ded. servers out there running v1.03 (no warez of course)! TDS
MasterData
Make sure you apply the patch to your normal JK2 install before running the new dedicated server. That's what was making mine crash.
MatrixCPA
While it's been mentioned in several other threads, I'll put another copy here just to cover all the bases. There's a new pk3 file that is installed when you update your client to 1.03--assets2.pk3. That's what contains the new maps and such. In order to get a 1.03 ded server to work, you need to upload this file to the base directory with the other pk3's. It's a bit over 3mb.
ultralightning
i thought i was the only one that had problems with the 1.03 patch... it caused my system to hand everytime i enter into a 1.03 server... and my client prog is patched to 1.03.... i think lucasarts released this patch tooo soon.... even though eax is nice.... it is not worth it if the client prog crashes
