NewBJedi, I'm sorry that you cannot compete with the elite. I realize that you want to saber because it's cool. I have no problem with that. If FF BGJ in JK2 was like FF BGJ in JK1, I would be playing FF Sabers as well. However, since the two are completely different, many of us chose FF Guns. I'm sorry that you get owned on gun servers. If you don't want to get killed by a gun, don't get on a gun server.

 

Now, for my rant:

 

To the developers at Raven and the production team at LucasArts:

 

JK2, as a game, is awesome. It has everything (and then some) that I could ever want in a game. It, however, sucks as a sequel for reasons too numerous to write in what little time I have.

 

1.02 was bad enough with the small amounts of ammo on ALL maps. But now, it is simply horrendous. With full ammo, I have 12 secondary shots of the heavy repeater. 12! How can I properly defend my team's flag if I'm constantly running for ammo? Now, on every map, I will have to choose the lightside due to the "balancing" that has taken place. On maps with room, dark had an advantage over light. Now with drain nerfed to nothing (all but 3 bars of my mana takes away 1/3 of my oponent's -- who, btw, is a lighty with absorb) I cannot keep my weapon from being pulled. I would have at least had a fighting chance with normal drain. Now I might as well stand still so that my oponent does not have to waste what little ammo he has on splash shots.

 

I realize the majority of posters on this board are saberists. Good for them. If they whine about getting killed by a gun, that's because they are too stupid to grab a gun and fight back. Instead, they charge after us with their saber hopelessly swinging while we barrage them with fire. It's not the gunner's fault the saberist is dumb. If you want to tweak sabers, tweak ONLY sabers. Don't start screwing up the guns because some newbs couldn't figure out that they'll die everytime they go up against a gunner as long as they are carrying a saber. Now that saber duels take longer, more and more complaints will come from these morons that they were killed by a gun while they were fighting; which will lead to more nerfing of the guns.

 

The majority of whining comes from those that have not taken the time to learn the game. Every force power had a counter, and if someone was too stupid to learn the counter, then they deserved what ever happened to them. Every weapon could be dealt with, either by picking up a weapon, pulling their weapon, or pushing their projectile back at them.

 

With the release of one patch, competitive gameplay has been put to a screeching hault. Now we are forced to do 3 things:

 

1. Convince the leagues not to require 1.03.

2. Move on away from JK2, the game that some of us have been waiting for since a year after JK1.

3. Release the source code so that we, the non-saberists, can build the game to our standards and would not have to deal with the whining of the newbs.

 

I personally, would like to see number 3 happen. I have been waiting for the source code to be released since JK2's release. If you want people to keep playing your game, RELEASE THE SOURCE CODE!

 

There are more than saberists that play JK2. If you keep accommodating the saberists and punishing the gunners, I can guarantee that many will stop playing this game. If you want to keep the players you have, RELEASE THE SOURCE CODE!

 

Finally, RELEASE THE SOURCE CODE!!!

This patch was seemingly created in response to the huge amount of complaints aimed at various different tactics developed immediately after the release. Namely that the saber wasn't the most powerful weapon in the game, and that it was too easy to do anything else.

 

Well. Now the saber is not viable at all. It takes too much time to bother with. Any gunner who can aim halfway decently is going to be using rage/speed and spamming their 12 repeater shots into the HOARDS of foolish sw geeks who are going to be impressed with the lil blocking flashes and won't realize they're playing a game.

 

Ive been b!tching about how easy it was to win on the public servers since a week after the official release, and now Raven's managed to make my job *that* much easier. If they'd just left it alone, a lot of kids who prolly haven't ever touched a fps before might have figured it out well enough to give me even a modest challenge.

 

But no more. I'm going to be winning by 100 kills incessantly just spamming the crap out of every ctf match filled with newbs who are mesmorized by the glow of their light stick.

 

Its wrong, its totally wrong. This game had some problems and exploits to begin with, but they kind of balanced eachother out. Now Raven's taken the saber and the guns nearly entirely out of the mix. Its like twiddling sticks now. Nothing about it makes any logical sense.

 

Why are all the guns so ridiculous? why couldn't you come up with a balancing solution that made the saber *better* instead of making everything in the game LESS effective.

 

I'm sorely disgusted.

You knew months before it's release that this game's primary focus would be on saber duels and force powers... "I want more ammo... This is SO unfair." Snap out of it.

 

Heres a news flash...This game was a let down even 'BEFORE' the patch... Nothing "revolutionary" about it. All that build up, and such little pay-off.

 

And why do some of you start your posts by telling Lucasarts and Raven (or who ever) how great this game is, right before you start bitching about it?... Guess what: If Raven and Lucasarts gave a sh*t about what it's victims...er, I mean... customers thought , this "gift" of a patch would've actually "improved" the game.

But don't worry, I'm sure when/if they get around to it they'll release another patch... Those f***ing pirates. They should've gotten the game right BEFORE it shipped.

 

Is anyone else besides me sick of downloading "patches" for NEW games (cutting edge my ass) that are barely a month old.

Some one really "dropped the ball" on this one.

I will admit to the fact that i like using the saber, but i will also use guns if i feel the situation is right.....but for those of you complaining about how the patch has spoiled guns and whatever then you could always go play something else that focuses on guns..i.e quake 3 or summat. I'm not saying that everyone should do this, i for one feel that having both the daber and the guns is a nice touch, but it does annoy the crap out of me when you have a fairly large saber fight going off (i.e more than one person, not possible in duel) and someone comes in and fills the room with grenades......i suppose it's a valid tactic but hey....so's camping to snipe and everyone seems to bitch about that

 

anyways, thats my 2p on the matter.

I very much like the patch, as far as saber combat goes. The combat style is much more fluid and the animations are better, plus the DFA is tweaked so people can't spin around and hit people with their sabers in the ground.

 

The weapons combat changes might have been a mistake, though. I'll have to play a bit more and see how it balances, but some of the ammo requirements seem a bit steep. Then again, the Golan is a very powerful weapon when used skillfully, so maybe making the ammo more scarce could help. I would have to play more to see.

 

The force tweaks are good ideas, too, since drain was getting annoying (as was heal in some cases), but maybe the nerf on drain went a little too far? The force power requirement is now very high instead of fairly low.

 

The patch all in all IMHO is a step in the right direction, but maybe too big a step. Let's give it some time to see how it works out before we start throwing bricks at Raven.

whoa whoa whoa... while the patch may have its bad points (heal/drain nerfed, forward kick near imposible... ammo shortage...) The ammo shortage is a big issue, even if i do prefer my trusty saber to any of the other weapons, used right in combination with other force powers it balances well... However its the one thing goes bad syndrome so lets come down on the gracious game developers' heads. You scream and yell about stuff like 'omg, where's the ammo gone?' Maybe this is to put more of an emphasis on the saber... heaven forbid you have to use a jedi's weapon in a game titles 'Jedi Outcast'... What about the fixed status command... the red jump slashers tamed, game overall (minus the heal/drain) more balanced, eax better implemented... I can safely say I do like the patch... all that really needs to be done is for LA to release an sdk and reduce the power required to cast heal/drain. Also, some of you say you'll not upgrade your match servers... you don't really have a choice if you want to participate on your ladders... as they will require you to run the latest version (Proving Grounds requires is, pretty sure ogl and Twl also do....) Once again the world proves that it can not be pleased by any patch... well, I will not follow the norm set in this topic... Good Job on the patch raven/la... tweak the force balance a little (less nerfing of heal...) and fix the kick and I think we have a good game, as if it wasn't already... only other thing it might need would be some new maps, and there are mapping tools release for that...

Yer a fool. CTF is a ridiculous exercise in homophillia without guns. And now its impossible to actually even go thru the motions of trying to shoot someone.

 

I just emptied a full clip of strifle into my buddies back. Into his *back* and he blocked all of the shots.

 

The only actual weapon in this anymore are the goddamn detonator packs. This game is designed to make it as difficult as possible to kill a saber wielding sw geek who wants to be luke skywalker.

 

The weapons should be clean and effecient as well as make sense. Right now i could throw rocks at people and do a better job of killing them than using the idiotic excuse for combat found in this game.

 

I was all set to try to figure out as many exploits as possible in the hopes that this game would have some unintended value, instead they go ahead and just screw the crap out of the 2 semi useful weapons in the hopes that all you gimpy bastards wont quit telling your friends to buy this game so you can be like luke skywalker. GO TO TOSTI STATION AND PICK UP SOME MOTHERFKIN POWER CONVERTERS AND QUIT NERFING THIS ALREADY CRAPPY GAME. sigh.

FFS. Somebody slap Raven upside the head. Well actually guess what guys, us elite ff gunners are outnumbered. Statistics reports that the majority of the players are fresh-outta-the-box newbs. Never played a game of jk1 in their life. So these sabers are mystical weapons they can use to defeat other powerful jedi masters. They believe if they **** over guns players no big deal it will up their status with the Sabers players. Well hot damn they are right. But they overlooked something. As in most games, the hardcore gunners are the single group of gamers in jk2 that will stick around longer than a year. Yes their will be some saberists lurking around, but the true hardcore players remain to be the gunners and clanners.. The ones that make up the remaining community. If they truly cared about the dedicated community they wouldn't have made this update. But they don't care, it's all about the sales. Actually if they cared about sales, they would have made piracy protection. Well i'm assuming the majority of the people playing this game have warez versions. Which puts people like me, a patron of this game, at a dis advantage. I'm out $50 because some ****face wanted to please the saberists, forcing me to quit this game. But why please the saberists and give away this game for free you ask? get them hooked on the whole jedi fantasy **** so they can plug the up and coming Attack of the Clones Film. Which they don't need to, the **** sells itself. So as for this patch, Raven, honey, baby, look you want to make us happy? I mean you truly want to make us all happy? Then add some more ****ing ammo to the maps or increase the amount of ammo per unit. This will make up for the lack of power in each shot, and please the saberists because our shots are still weak as ****. But at least we have some reason to play the game. it will just be like in TFC where you got a rocket launcher and 50 rockets.
