Patch gripes/suggestions/wishlist:

 

This is my final comment/gripe/suggestion on the game.

 

List of issues by levels of importance:

 

1. Backflip/Kick is nerfed. GRRRR!!!! Kick is next to

impossible to use now.

 

2. Drain is nerfed. Hurray more 'other force' spam!

 

3. Grip is nerfed - I just loved fighting grip! It was fun!

 

4. Saber defense is way too high - though the attack is actually much better and more accurate.

 

Suggestions on how to fix these problems:

 

A. Fixing backflip/kick can be done two different ways:

 

1. Server-side option/rule:

 

g_backflipkick 0/1

 

g_backflipkick 0 = Double Tap (default)

g_backflipkick 1 = Single Tap

 

Or:

 

2. Clientside Jump Control - toggle

 

Backflip Double-Tap on/off

 

On = 1.03 style (default)

Off = 1.02 style

 

B. Fix For Nerfed Forces:

 

Easy solution:

 

Modify the rule "g_MaxForceRank":

 

You can either:

 

1. Add more Force Ranks - with more selections.

 

Or:

 

2. Change the Force Rank System to something as follows:

 

g_MaxForceRank should have 0 0 0 - 3 digits.

 

1st set = Neurtral/universal force powers: 0 - 8

 

2nd set = Light Force Powers: 0 - 8

 

3rd set = Dark Force Powers: 0 - 8

 

0 - 7 = normal settings - 1.03

 

8 = 1.02's 7 (max forces).

 

3. Allow auto-blocking to be turned on and off:

 

g_saberautoblock 0/1

 

g_saberautoblock 1 = 1.03 saber autoblock (default)

 

g_saberautoblock 0 = 1.02 saber autoblock

 

or:

 

g_saberautoblock 0 = Manual saber block (requiring key bind for block)

 

4. Weapon and ammo respawns to be different:

 

Change g_weapondisable to g_weapons:

 

g_weapons 0 - 2

 

g_weapons 0 = no weapons

g_weapons 1 = 1.03 style (default)

g_weapons 2 = 1.02 style

 

Allow the in-game browser to show these important changes on the side of each server - perhaps in graph form, with the important options clearly displayed - on a side column when someone clicks on a server.

 

Allow the in-game browser to filter out these kinds of options - in and advanced options button/area.

 

People using ASE or GS can easily filter these out via modifiers and filters.

I'd love to see server options. I'd love to have everyone be happy and content. Ideally, you'd be able to play the game you want to play. I just doubt that will happen, since the 1.02 patch DOES exist. Most people don't seem to care about the fixes as much as they do the changes. If you like the changes, you're pro 1.03. If you dislike the changes, you're anti-1.03. At least, that's how it seems people are reacting.

 

No one's saying, "Dammit!! Bring back DFA!" Probably because they've found the "new" DFA, namely the back sweep from medium stance. Pull someone, or get into a cluster of people, and then just execute the move. Voila. Instant lame-ness. Rinse, repeat. UBER-lameness. :)

 

Anyway, I do think that server options would be the best solution in any future patches. Don't take things away from people (unless it's a bug and it shouldn't be there anyway), just give 'em the option to play the new way or the old way.

 

The one problem with this is, depending on how many patches come out, you might have

 

g_weapons 0

g_weapons 1 1.02 style

g_weapons 2 1.03 style

g_weapons 3 1.04 style

etc., etc., etc.

 

For purposes of not having a HUGE patch, raven might get rid of certain features. Who knows. It won't be solved soon for people who hate 1.03, so you might as well either get used to it, or switch back to 1.02.

Final post to this thread - in all fairness there is a better way to kick - sorta - till things are fixed.

 

Solo told me to try a different key other than just space.

 

I can use space to jump and 'a' key to kick.

 

Thumb just doesn't like double tap but other fingers are fine.

 

It works pretty well, bind they jump 'also' to another key other than just space.. see if it helps.

Okay one more post ... really.

 

Anyone notice that if walk or run in 1.03 it's like a slide versus your feeting really moving on the floor?

 

And anyone notice that the top score people in 1.03 are all using the pull force / backstab fire?

 

And if you get in a saber fight it's not like really killing them, it's more like you are fighting their AI super defense - because they have no control over how the saber defends.

 

The really great attack control was nullified by the really uber saber auto defense system - takes forever to even hit anyone.

 

At least with 1.02 it was my own fault if I got hit or not, not the computer defending me via automatic saber defense control.

 

I was checking out this one 1.03 server:

 

This one guy would do the following on server that says don't kill people with saber drawn:

 

He'd walk around with saber off, mind trick, sneak up and back stab people.

 

Ah .. what a lovely patch 1.03 is.
