Obiwan for console only? LEC's failure is complete.

Fear.

Looks like all the negative things I had feared about LEC are true.

Fear leads to Anger.

I am so angry I will probably never buy a LEC game again. I also want my money back on Lara Croft and the Infernal Machine, Rebellion, Episode 1, and Xwing vs Tie Fighter.

Anger leads to Suffering

Now I will have to sit around and wait for other great games to come out!

These are my confirmed fears about LEC. When I used to post under the name Orbvs_Terrarvm.

*********************************************

June 7, 2000"I don't want to sound too negative but I hope LEC delivers on Obiwan becuase I am

starting to formulate some opions about how they operate. Believe me, I want them to

prove me wrong!!!!

But it seems that

1. LEC doesn't care to support their online user community.

2. LEC approaches creating PC games with a console playing frame of mind.

3. LEC thinks that if the game looks good and plays smooth it is worthy of the Star Wars

name." http://www.jediknight.net/mboard/Forum2/HTML/000274.html

********************************************

May 2, 2000"Jedi Knight was an incredible game because it had so many features not seen in many

other games, if any. However since then Lucas Arts has released some pretty generic

and bland Star Wars games. I am worried that a new graphics engine with simulated

physics won't be enough to make Obiwan as great as Jedi Knight since..." http://www.jediknight.net/mboard/Forum2/HTML/000260.html

********************************************

May 4, 2000"I can understand how Lucas Arts wouldn't want

someone to make a mod with Yoda and Ben hittin the bong in the events between parts

3 and 4 but forbidding anyone to a game about that period is a little too protective." http://www.jediknight.net/mboard/Forum2/HTML/000261.html

*********************************************

July 21, 2000 "2.The game semi-follows the plot of the first movie. (Not that there is anything terribly

wrong with that; but after all I had seen the movie a bijillion times and already played the

movie on the PC)

But keeping an eye on it's developement and knowing now that the team responsible for

'MOTS' is making this game, I'm no longer "having a bad feeling" about it."

HOW WRONG I WAS! http://www.jediknight.net/mboard/Forum2/HTML/000288.html

********************************************

Well guys, I really had fun chatting with you all. But I might not come back here since I am never going to buy another LEC game again.

Take care guys, lets hope Episode 2 and 3 aren't released on VHS only too.

I wish I could say something that would make everybody feel better... but I don't have anything.

Let's hope some good emulators come out for those 'next generation' consoles or some boards let us play the games on our pc's.

Oh, what's the use?!

I think it's funny how LucasArts says:

"The expected breadth and scope of the Obi-Wan project could not be met given limitations of technology"

Then they say:

"LucasArts is now planning to bring the game and its assets to a next generation console platform"

Ok........don't we all know that consoles are far behind PC in technology? Sure a playstation2 has much better graphics than it's predecessor, but it can't match even a geForce 1. The X-Box won't be much better either. So tell me, LucasArts, what does a console have that a PC doesn't technology wise?

Not that I support LA,but in their defense, it makes sense to release it on a console. I don't think that they meant that PS2 is better than PC, it just means that they can put the game they have alredy designed on it. They wanted to do so much for the PC version, but they couldn't with the existing comp technology that most people have. They can release a scaled down version for a console, that would still be awsome compared to other console games, but not great in PC standards. I mean think about it. You would be even more upset if they released Obi-Wan right now and it wasn't as good as they could have made it or if it had some rediculous requirments that most people couldn't meet without dropping a whole load of money on Comp upgrades, and thats if their current computer could even support the upgrades. I know everyone is ticked, myself included. Heck, on my forum I wrote a full blown rant about Lucas(place Co. name here)products. But when I step back and look at this, it seems to me that they are actually trying to do the right thing for the first time in a while. I mean, why would they just scrap a project that is a sure bet to earn a butt load of cash regardless of how bad it is? This seems to be the first step in LA acually trying to up the standards back to where they once were. Heck, I'm upset that they are not going to release it on PC(yet)but if it ends up being a great game for PS2, then the will probably release it on PC when they can, if not a different game altogether, based on Ep2 perhaps?

Something weird happened to me yesterday, just when I stopped reading the news that OB1 isn't going to get released(on the PC), "Let It Be" from The Beatles started playing on the radio, it gave me a whole new perspective on this situation.

Guys guys guys, why hate lucasarts because of one cancelation? Games get canceled all the time. Don't forget about a few facts about lucasarts. Lucasarts is famous for their ADVENTURE games. And those are still going strong. Escape From Monkey Island was good, not as great as Grim Fandango, but it was pretty good. And don't forget that Tim Schafer is working on a new title, FOR THE PC. So don't get completely let down that one game isn't making it. For you star wars fans out there, there are 2 Star Wars RPGs coming out, one with Verant, and the other with Bioware. These are both going to be very good. And don't forget that there are a few unannounced PC games, there may be an ACTUAL sequel to Jedi Knight.

You have a good point but Lucasarts has been screwing with us for the past three years. THREE YEARS!!! You have to admit that's pretty bad.

I suggest reading the interview with LEC president that Simpson posted. It answers a lot of questions. LEC isnt trying to screw anyone. The reason they cancelled Obi-Wan for PC is because it ended up being a high end game. Meaning that only people with the latest, and most upgraded PC's would be able to run it. That's what they meant by "due to limits in technology". Not meaning that PC were limited, but that most people's computers were not upgraded enough to play it. Now that i know that, I support their decision. More than likly, one of the "soon to be announced" games, will be a Dark Forces sequal.

Still sounds like bad coding to me.

Why would you need a high end PC to solve jump puzzles and box moving?

Consoles become dated as soon as they are released. The same thing goes for the pc except you can always upgrade a pc. So I don't fully buy the "high end pc" excuse.

ok, new engine that lets the environment of the game be TOTALY interactive. I'm thinkin high end PC is a pretty good excuse if you want the thing to look good. Besides, who said all Obi-wan was was jump puzzles and box moving. You can "move" anything in the entire game. Something that interactive has got to take a pretty good amount of horsepower under the hood.

Also, Don't forget this NEW revelutionary new palm saber control with the mouse. Oh sure... P2 will support that!? Plus the on-line. It took dreamcast over a year to finally release a game that had on-line, And STILL there network is down. I don't know... very depressing.... Oh, by the way.. THANKS AGAIN LUCASARTS!!

I have been reading through this thread and I couldn't help but post a reply

After just looking at the Lucas Arts site to see if there was any new information/screens for the upcoming release Obi Wan for PC.

I noticed to my surprise that the PC game Obi Wan has been CANCELLED??? What in the heck is Lucas Arts thinking??? I mean my god

not only did they cancel the game, but their reasoning for doing is most lamest excuse ever imaginable!!

Lucas Arts this is no way to treat your adoring fans, especially the ones that have purchased your software for years!!

Is this the way that you say thanks for all of those years, by turning your back on the PC gaming community. I am appauled to say the least.

I think this whole console gaming thing is getting way out of hand, and I think its really contradictive that the most common way that console gamers find out games is through the internet, which of course is done through a computer. If this is the case those same people would be aware of the advantages of playing games using a computer rather than playing on a console.

GAMES LOOK WAY BETTER ON A PC!!!

Sure some can argue that they use PC's at work or at school and dont have access to internet at home, but still more people own PC's more than then they own a gaming console.

I think that person who made that remark about boycotting Lucas Arts PC products has the right idea and I think that my recently purchased Escape from Monkey Island game, will be my last purchase from Lucas Arts until they get their act together and show some well deserved respect to the PC gaming community.

Honestly, I wonder what Lucas Arts will do once there little PS2 becomes obsolete and outdated.

My guess is that they will come running back and try to push their products on the PC community while they are waiting for the next new gaming console to be released. I wonder if the PC community will be so kind. My guess is NO!!!

Seeing as the PC gaming community normally keeps there systems up to date by upgrading when necessary. I mean come on you cant put a new motherboard in that overpriced, tendency to overheat DVD player... Ummm I mean Play Station 2 so what good will the thing be too you in a two years??

Sorry for the ranting I still cant believe it. 'sigh'

Oh well I guess I will have to go out and buy Hidden and Dangerous 2 when it comes out now instead!! Sorry Shameless plug.

I guess I will go and sign that petition now!!

5000 people already you say, wow, times that by the going price of a new game and that equals a lot of potential revenue that Lucas Arts could have made.

So what is the point of this post!!!

PCs are Upgradeable, PS2's are not

and

Lucas Arts needs to take a serious look at there corporate workers and find out if really any of them know anything about common business sense???

Just my two cents

Brian
