I read when you create your character it randomly makes it (with a very low chance) that you have the force in you. If you don't you can't become a jedi, just sore luck, and it takes a long time to figure out if you have the force in you so people wouldn't be making characters randomly until they get a jedi.

God some people can be so stupid.

Ummm...no. Actually if you read a chat transcript with the some of the Galaxies people, you'll find that there is in fact a random selection process. Anyone has the chance to become a Jedi, it just happens to be a very low chance.

that's pretty rude saint and thanks vestril for backing me up because I know its true, the information on these forums is barely reliable sometimes.

No problem, thank you for not going nuts and flaming him back, it's nice to see mature people on here :)

I've posted this before, and I'll post this again...

If Verant in any way makes becoming a Jedi random, it will create a HUGE market for jedi accounts on ebay.

*sigh*

I am going to be a Don Quixote Homeless guys that just sits on the corner screaming raving mad at all the Bounty hunters and Smugglers about how I am the world's most powerful Jedi and true ruler of the Galaxy.... Whenever anyone out of pity gives me some credits I am going to run to the Cantina Drink it away and run back to my corner to wail some more....

AND if I really do turn into a Jedi I am going to sell that Character in a heartbeat and make a new Quixote :-)

So your saying that you have no problem working hard and doing your best to get a Jedi character and NOT getting one and some other guy forks over some cash and gets to start one right away?

Believe me, it WILL happen. I have two computers on my network, and could add another one easy and a fourth if I work at it some. All of these comps could be connected with my cable modem running 24/7 opening/closing/creating/deleting accounts/characters all across the different game servers.

I ebayed my first dark age of camelot account for about $100 dollars after two weeks of play (He was the highest armorsmith on the server). Two weeks of casual play in between work and social life, not the non stop gaming many people associate with MMORPGers. Also, DAoC was not nearly as mainstream as galaxies will be. Galaxies will probably have twice the population of DAoC easy, and almost all will want to be a Jedi.

Making Jedi random is a bad idea...but its not as though Verant has never had a bad idea, and then lied straight out about it to the fan base ;)

Make them KoS to 95% of the MOBs, make another player class able to earn points by PKing them (bounty hunters maybe), make them three times as hard to level and have fewer options to train their characters. Make it so that most people wash out after only a few levels, and then make it so that the ones that DO make it to the top don't have an overwhelming advantage over every other person in the game.

Thats my suggestion on how they should have jedi in the game.

You can't work at it if it's random...and if some idiot wants to pay money for it, who really cares? Congratulations to whoever that is. Derandomizing it wouldn't change that people could buy Jedi characters. People would just do all of the work in your system, and then sell them for more money.

Randomizing it makes it such that everyone has the same chance to beome a Jedi, whether or not they're a hardcore gamer, which is a little more fair. If some people want to spend their money to become Jedi, who really cares?

Perhaps I sould have put it a different way then...

How would you like it if your random chance at being a Jedi comes up nothing, and someone else does not have to even take the chance but simply buy his account on Ebay.

As for buying on Ebay, are you familiar at all with EQ and other MMORPGs? At its peak, there where over three thousand Ebay auctions up selling eq accounts, items, platinum...and people where buying them up like hotcakes. Someone could come in with some cash and skip by all the effert other people had to put into their characters at low levels to earn money/exp/and most of all items.

This lessens the 'prestige' of earning these things the hard way, and ebayers where generally revilved by other players for a long time (and still are as far as selling accounts)

If it IS random, then it should take a long time to find out if your character can be a Jedi. Say after so many levels and so much game time you will get the option to keep going along the path you are on or to 'change class' and start training as a jedi. Keep in mind that the longer it takes to find out if your jedi, the more valubale the account will be when sold.

The best way would be to let people choose to be a Jedi right from the start, and make the path so difficult to follow that most people wash out and make other characters that are easier.

Sure its great to be a jedi, but if your friends are all twice your level and growing and your still in the noob zones dodgeing imperial death squads you might want to change your class.
