Daexiar
Oo, Drazen Isle. My favorite level of all times I'd love to see it in JO too, yet i think the FPS would really suffer in it.
Klorel
Do you have any pics of it? i'd like to see the "favorite map of all time" must be good.
Emon
No one but the author can port Drazen to JO. Why? Because I know that he'll personally sue your ass if you create a sequel to his level. And I'll be sure to tell him of any work on an unauthorized sequel that I find. It pisses me off when people think they go just go make a sequel to a level without permission. If Jeff`W wants to make Drazen for JO, then let him. If he doesn't and someone else tries to without his permission, I garuntee he'll find out and have it taken down. Soo, unless you get permission to work on a sequel, don't even start. I'm not trying to be mean or cynical, but I know that Jeff`W is an author who really cares about his work, and he won't let you make a sequel without permission. I think a much, much better choice would be a similar level. Besides, remaking an old level never works out right, something new is 95% of the time better. Drazen has been totally played out for JK, so I don't think anyone wants to play the same thing for JO.
hack
Whoa... tiptoe away...hahaha. I agree with Emon, however; I don't see any harm in making something that looks like it. Ideas and imagination are free... I would like to see a screenshot of this favorite level...
TUX
Emon, calm down big guy! All dorain8 said was that it was a great level and he'd love to see it made for JO. I totally agree with dorain8 that it was a great level, probably the best for JK. However, for you to sit there and spew things like "Jeff W is gonna sue you" is childish. How can he sue anybody here over an idea he's released free on the internet. Does he have trademarks? Copyrights? If that were the case, level names like "Death Star Hanger" and "Naboo Reactor" wouldn't be allowed because GL owns the copyright. I could make a bump and surround it with water and call it Drazen Isle if I wanted and there is nothing Jeff W can do about it... even if you tell him. Don't misunderstand me; I have nothing against Jeff W or Drazen Isle (which again, I do think is the finest level for JK). I would love it if Jeff decided to make a Drazen Isle for JO. Obviously he'd (Jeff) be the best at doing it since his original is done exceptionally well and it is totally apparent that he cares a great deal about his work. But it bothers me when people come in here and post things as ludicrous as "I'm gonna sue you"…you can’t! With that said, I do hope somebody is talented enough to recreate this level for JO. My kids would love it and I would love it. Before you begin though, I would suggest (out of courtesy, not legal obligation) that you do contact Jeff W and request permission. I’d also like to warn anybody who would attempt it, there will be A LOT of critics if it isn’t done correctly. I think Emon is right when he says that a similar level is probably a better idea. Drazen was fantastic for JK, but may not cut it in JO. Something new, but similar, would probably be more appealing. Here are links to the screen shots off Massasi.net http://www.massassi.net/cgi-bin/screenshot.cgi?levels/screenshots/drazen01.jpg http://www.massassi.net/cgi-bin/screenshot.cgi?levels/screenshots/drazen02.jpg These screens don't do the level justice. jipe
How can he sue anybody here over an idea he's released free on the internet. Does he have trademarks? Copyrights? Just because it's released free doesn't mean he still doesn't own it - he has IP on it, and the level belongs to him. The JK EULA states this, although it also says that LEC has distribution rights, so they could (theoretically) sell addon levels in a pack and not give any royalties. But that's a different story.. And if you didn't know, Emon had already attempted a Drazen port, whereupon Jeff found out and asked him to stop.
Jeff Walters
Hey all I know Emon meant well, but yes...a wee bit over top The only people I'd consent to create a DI sequel are #cantina_cloud editors who I know and trust......and while people are right that there's nothing I can do to stop anyone else *making* a sequel, you can rest assured it wouldn't be posted on this site or Massassi for starters. Don't mean to sound all pissy or anything, but I just don't want anyone creating a really really really awful 10 minute job sequel and slapping "Drazen Isle" on it.....that would be......scary

DeTRiTiC-iQ
*slaps RichDiesal* However there is nothing stopping anyone making an RPG map set on a tropical island with treasure hunts and the like. It can't be too hard to think of a different name for a different island.
RichDiesal
*gets out his disruptor and disentigrates Detritic* You know I'm right. THAT would be a great idea though... just because it's the same style as another map doesn't mean anyone necessarily stole it. I mean hell, if so, LucasArts better get ready for a lawsuit from iD suing them for stealing their intellectual property - "the 1st-person shooter". And the team behind Medal of Honor too. "You have Nazis... we had Nazis in our game... thus you stole our idea." Doesn't work QUITE that way. Speaking of which, which game pioneered the 3rd person shooter? I've never thought of that before.
Lucko Mabri
Which game pioneered 3rd person shooting? jeez i dunno. Pc zone evry month have a section to which games pioneered which game types but they aint got around to 3rd person shootas. jeez you got me there. -Lucko Mabri

Hmm... good question. I would guess: Half-Life Jedi Knight: Dark Froces 2 A Version Of Castle Wolfenstien? Even Tribes? Just my $.02 Lucko, nice name but please shut up
RichDiesal
I didn't think Half-Life had 3rd-person? Maybe it did and I just never used it. It might have been the original Tribes, come to think of it... but I still want to say it must've been something earlier than that.
Wes Marrakesh
well, i guess i read it wrong. Half Life could have pioneered the x person shooter, 3d technology, but prob not #3rd Person shooters. Tribes may be it but i agree it should be something earlier. Unreal? Quake 1?

RichDiesal
Spira's fine, go make the damn level now. And I'm pretty sure that the 1st person true 3D shooters would have been pioneered with Quake... Doom was the first with three "dimensions" to play in, but it wasn't true 3D as you couldn't actually ever have two objects in the same XY coords as in any other object (i.e. you couldn't jump over enemies). The first 1st person shooter ever, of course, was Wolfenstein 3D. And I don't... THINK Unreal had 3d person. Not really sure though.
Lucko Mabri
not 3d! 3rd! -Lucko Mabri p.s-unreal did have 3rd person if you installed adavnced model support but i dont really count it as a pioeer since when in 3rd person you did not have a crosshair The only 2 game i can recall with 3rd person crosshair games are c&c renegade and jedi knight ii : Jedi outcast. pp.s-that was 1 long p.s! The Truthful Liar
Heretic 2 First 3rd person game I can remember... or perhaps Soulreaver was before that? But I doubt it, next in line comes DF2: Jk
RichDiesal
Heretic 2 was published in November 1998 while Soul Reaver was published in 1999... But Jedi Knight: Dark Force 2 was published in September 1997! So JK is the current winner of the race (how convenient). Anyone know of any 3rd person shooters earlier than that? The Truthful Liar
hmm... that's really interesting since I could have sworn Soul Reaver and Jk2 weren't that far apart in release... Well... I think that's it.. Jk1 wins :D (will add more if I can find something)
