newbie to the hosting of a server

There is quite a bit of info here in the forum as well as a spare readme included with the server binaries. Since you have provided no information about what OS you are using, the type of server you want to run (dedicated/non-dedicated/duel/ctf/ffa/etc), nor your network setup--it's basically impossible to just say; do x,y, and z. Additionally, it would help to know if you have any admin experience at all, even if it was with another game. That way we know how specific we need to be and how much we can "skip".

MY OS IS XP.WHAT ARE THE FIRST STEPS IN SETTING UP A SERVER THAT OTHERS CAN VIEW AND JOIN.I CAN START THE SERVER FROM THE GAME MENU AND A HUD OR DISPLAY SHOWS UP IN MY DESKTOP.

download jedi runner at http://runner.gameadmins.com

it's a good tool for setting up a server. pretty easy to use and comes with a help file. allows you to configure force powers, weapons, create a map cycle, which type of game you want to setup (ffa, duel, jedi master, ctf, etc...)

i use it and used the create batch file utility to setup my servers. put the batch files in my startup folders and now if something happens to my system and i have to restart it, it will automatically load my servers for me.
