map and model problems

For some reason, maps are not downloading to clients from my server. I'm using Jedi Runner and have the "allow downloads" option checked, but when people try to join and don't have the map, they get an error saying "unable to load map xxx/xxx_xxxx".

Any ideas?

Secondly, and this probably should go in a different forum but ... I'm playing with friends on my server and sometimes just see their weapon floating ... no model. Is this because I don't have that particular model loaded, or is there another reason?

Any help is appreciated ...

In order for a client connecting to download a mpa that they do not have they must have auto downloading enabled.

Note that, unless you have a seriously fast connection, players on your server may experience lag while connectiong players download maps. I would recommend mentioning your server is using custom maps in the MOTD and add an url where to download

Thanks Aphex!

I was just thinking this morning that this might be something to check out. Just one more question ... how does the client enable auto-downloading? :p Is it a setting built into the JK2 gui, or do they have to manually set it elsewhere?

Any ideas out there on the invisible models?

Thanks again!

I can't recall if the client gui has a checkbox or something for allowing downloads. I would assume it does. The player can just edit their jk2mpconfig.cfg and change/add the following line:

seta cl_allowDownload "1"

Now, one thing to note is that the speed at which a client downloads a map is limited to the sv_maxrate. So, unless you have a fat enough connection to use a very high maxrate, the download speeds can suck nuts. There is no way, at this moment, to independently set the speed for playing vs downloading nor to redirect the player to a different location to obtain the map.

As far as invis (hands only) models go, I'm not aware of any way to disable them. Personally, I warn, kick, then ban any player using them on my server. I'm hoping to configure my admin bot to do this automatically--once the CUIC logging is restored.

Actually ... do we know why or where these invis models are coming from? Is it because the server doesn't have that particular model loaded, or because the client doesn't? I was just playing with friends who's models were showing up invisible. Not malicious unknown gamers.

My understanding is that the "partial" models are used for dismemberment purposes and thus are a part of the existing game files--not hacks. I think it's a bit cheesy to use them, but technically they aren't doing anything that the game isn't designed to let them do.
