Sending heartbeat to master list?

How do I send a heartbeat with my listen server, like in dedicated, so people find my server? Because when I start regular listen server and I play in it, nobody joins except for friends that already know my IP. That means my server is not listed in the master server list.

But when I start a dedicated one, people join like there's no tomorrow!! ;)

So, how do I send a "heartbeat" with my listen server so people can see my server up?

Thanks alot in advance!

i dunno anythin about sendin heartbeats manually.

but i just run a dedicated server, then join it on the same computer, and i use rcon to kick ppl etc ;)

to setup an rcon password u have to put rconpassword "example" into ur cfg file.

to take control once you've joined just bring up the console and put in rconpassword example. then to do the commands u could normally do just use rcon before them when typing them. for example rcon kick name / rcon map ffa_bespin

hope this helps

I wasn't tired one bit. His question is, "How do I get my listen server to show up in the master list because I want peeps to join." The command in the console would be just like I said. "...use the hearbeat command..." Now, I don't run listen servers using the mp app, so I can't recall if you can just issue the command with a / or if you need to setup an rcon pass and use /rcon rconpass heartbeat. I'm sure you can try both and see which one works. ;)

I wasn't tryin to flame or nothing sorry if you happen to take it that way dude, your an asset to these forums and you seem to post to each and every topic here, you gotta miss somewhere. hehe...

Reason I said you we're tired, because really he sounded like he wanted to just host a private game that his buddies could see on the master list without having to kick the people he didn't invite in the first place. A.K.A. private server. Sure the "heartbeat" method will work, but private server would seem so much simpler and hassle free. The fact he was trying to accomplish this another way just sounded like a newbie thing to me. But hell if he really wants to send heartbeats manually so be it.

Hawk! What are you talking about?? I think you've misunderstood me.

I want to send heartbeats to the master server list so OTHER people can find my server and join! So that I wont have to give IP-numbers to everybody that I want to join my game.

it happens when I start dedicated, it will send constant heartbeats and people will join, but when I start a "normal" (aka Listen server) nobody else but friends joins because my server wont show up on the master list.

Yeah dude I understood you. But the problem you had with doing it dedicated is you end up kicking people off that you didn't want. And the reason you wanted to run dedicated was so that they could see the server without knowing the ip.

I'm just saying run a dedicated server so they can see it, but password protect it so no unwanted folks get in. That's all..

Or hell switch windows back and forth to send heartbeats. Whatever works for ya, ya know.

If you do decide on the dedicated server route put this in your config file.

set g_password "password"

Whoever connects to your server will have to open they're consoles and type

/password password

Come to think I think the GUI there's a button for password, I dunno anyway you get the idea.
