Aayla Secura

I agree on some points, disagree with others but dont really care.

Maybe using an image of amy allen was misleading since I based my work largely off the comic book resources which where posted in this thread.

Its not the girl you see in the briefly in the movie, its her character that is much further utilised in the comic books. But either way their is a great choice of skins so you cant really lose,

.. something for everyone. :p

Great job!

I have zero complaints about the likeness of Aayla.

Also, the inclusion of all the different skins by different artists was an absolute gem of an idea.

I'm glad to see the head tails' movement, nice job.

I have to admit, just adding all of them in as bots and spectating was a visual treat!

Thank you so much.

PS my girlfriend would love a skin of a blue Twilek with a tight-fitting, Han Solo-like outfit.

hmmm..... first of all, twileks are ugly (i think im gonna get some criticism) and u all are quite sick becuz they are fictional aliens that have hair brains (im not saying the actress under the costume is ugly, im saying twileks are ugly)

hmmm.... i got off topic

good job on the model

the first skins for the model are more detailed and the artists definitely spent more time on them

but for the the extra batch of skins, they just scare me.......:ball:

i think its b/c of the lack of detail, one of them is just plain pink ( and her red version is just plain pink)......... another one just looks like it was spray painted with just one color

despite the negative criticism of the extra batch of skins

i think it is very well done

:D

Yeah! Yeah! I have noticed that too! She was coming running at me on bespin and has I ignited my saber I noticed the slight cross-eyedness!! And the checkbones!!! And she was missing a bellybutton!!! So I decided and jumped in the first bottomless pit I spotted. <-------- ironic for the slow ones

Come on, what critics are those? Did you try her in the game or are you basing your critics off some badly compressed screenshots? I have been looking at Aayla Secura's face for 5 minute in modview and could not notice any cross-eyedness whatsoever. And I dare anyone to spot a bellybutton while playing(or a screenshot even!). I think you are missing the point here. Skins have to look good INGAME, not on screenshots or in modview. If some textures have to be emphasized or exagerated to give the right result ingame, than that is the way it has to be done.

Actually, I heard that if you stare at her face for a realllly long time, but just try and look past it sort of (ya know?), you can see a hidden image of Mark Hamill circa Laserhawk!! :p

Seriously, Nano, I was just offering some constructive feedback on what I think makes some parts of the Aayla skin a little bit, well, funny-looking. And yes, this is based on lots of play time IN GAME. I also made a single player mod of her, and you'd be surprised how much detail of the face you can see when the camera view swings around if you have the slow-mo death turned on. The "twileks" pic enclosed with the model I assume should meet your standards for jpeg compression, and I think some of the differences I mentioned earlier can be seen there as well.

Though it's not my main gripe, maybe cross-eyed isn't so much the right description as it seems that the left one is going down and the right is going up. But now I'm making a big deal out of a few small things that are bugging me with a great skin and model. I'll just stick with Mya and Krishara.

I think the model and skins I great, though I do have a small observations. Maybe it's just me, but it looks as if theres a small gap in the neck and on the head just above that, as if the skin's not connecting properly, or something. Otherwise it's great!

I don't suppose we could get Aayla's saber hilt next, maybe? Just a thought. And I agree with some of the others, a male Twi'lek or a Nautolan (Kit Fisto's species) model would be great as well, if you're interested in doing them.

hey constructive crits are welcome,

the belly button thing makes me laugh, it wont be changed becasue certain elements arent visable in game due to the way the engine is handling textures - incase you didnt notice the skins will appear slightly blurred even though they are large scale - so I'm assuming its either the lighting effects that raven have implemented or the textures are automatically being resized. For instance look at the skin maps. I purposely included Aayla's tattoos even though they are barely visable - if at all visable in game.

As for the eyes being skewed - theres been quite alot of tests with the model, they've never been mentioned before but looking at the image of Aayla with all the other skins then yes in the image her eyes look wrong. I'm gonna check it out and fix it, rest assured. Someone else posted about the abs being too defined, I agree to an extent and I will soften the shading around them.

Kent H, yes gaps appear in the model in certain lights- very annoying for me, it will be changed, it was something I intended to fix before release but there seemed such a demand to provide the model to the public that I wanted some heat off my back.

I guess you'll all just have to live with the problems for the moment because I'm busy doing some work for a game atm.

I think you should consider this as an example of how begging for a model to be released all the time can result in the need for updates for it.

Yeah well don't listen to them, I see peps posting on threads for every model being made atm, coments like: HURRY, MUST HAVE NOW, ect. No matter what anyone tells them, they keep doing it.

Instead of demanding release, they should just look at the work being done and wait.

No good points. JO closeups generaly suck, even the raven ones. And the jpeg does not meet my standards for a 6 pixel wide eye.

Naaa, dont worry, we dont critic morons, just the models :)

(just joking, you were looking for it though:))

And Again thanks to spacemonkey for Aayla, sweeeaaattt Aayla!

And for the squinted eyes peps who saw some squinted eyes; I don't think space is going to mind if you move her eye a few fractions of a pixel to the right or left(or buy glasses). Same goes for the annoying peps who post their mails and ask for models to be released. Do your own! Software is free! What are you waiting, run for it!

Spacemonkey, I've been reading through all the Crits and such, and I feel you pain. Though now that the pressure of releasing her is off take it easy and tinker with her at leisure and I am to do with you know who..........

On the textures....

After making a SP version I noticed one really odd thing. I have bothe SP and MP Video setup exactly the same, but in SP the skins show up exactley as I painted them. If you curious about what I'm talking about Look at Mauls Mp and you'll see some Grey blotchyness, but in SP his garg appears very smooth and black with subtle variations in shading. Don't ask me why it's like that but oh well. Just thought you'd like to know for furture projects.

Nano, how then should one properly evaluate a skin? So far you've ruled out ModView, in game close-ups, reasonably sized screenshots... anything else? If I said I take my own screenshots at various distances using the binoculars with the 2d effects turned off (no lighting change), would that satisfy your criteria for valid material to evaluate - or would any point made still be no good because it's not your own? True, most skins look fine in shots taken from across the game screen, but I think in order to actually identify any flaws and improve the skin, sometimes it helps to get a little closer.

I think by citing something as minute as the fact that her eyes are oriented slightly differently I set myself up for some ridicule (though I appreciate your taking the time to actually consider this, spacermonkey), but as I said before it's an overall impression from the face (least of all the eyes themselves) that I get in game from just about any distance or angle, whether in motion or in a screenshot, that brought "funny-looking" to mind.
