Guardian Omega
Compiles are always stuck at the 9 in the VIS compile.
Demyse
Are you using caulk? It will greatly speed up compile times since caulking allows radiant to ignore certain areas when lighting, allowing MUCH faster compile times. My method for caulking is like many many many mappers out there, where you initially build the frame of your level using caulk, then go back and texture the surfaces after you finish architecture. There should be a few tutorials listed here http://www22.brinkster.com/ravenmapping/tutorials.asp that could help you learn more about caulking. Guardian Omega
Oh I see, I just made stuff as detail brushes, is that the same as chaulk?
RichDiesal
No. You need to go to every single brush in your entire level and apply caulk to it. Then apply textures to only the faces of those brushes that you can see from any point in your level. That will severely reduce compile times (and make the map run faster in-game, too). Guardian Omega
And how do I select a face of a brush?

sights0d
Will that slow down or speed up frame rates in the game as well? I've just been doing the full compile every time. On my current level, I've been getting a compile time of well over a half-hour and I've got a LOT more stuff to put in, including elevators, weapons, and force modules. Demyse
Caulking non-visible brushes improves performance greatly. It tells the computer that there is a surface there, but also tells it not to draw a texture on it. The less textures to draw, the faster the performance.
