Craz Posted May 28, 2002 Posted May 28, 2002 I keep reading about the next moving having a lava pit fall by Ani. However, where does this information come from? Certainly not from the canon of any movie, right? I never recall it being said that Darth got his start in a volcano. However, I do recall "knowing" that Darth got his start this way ever since I was a kid so it must have appeared in some book. The question is do we really know this is how it's going to happen?
Craz Posted May 28, 2002 Author Posted May 28, 2002 Originally posted by Redwing The RotJ novelisation. ...I think. OK, so it's not canon, then. Thanks.
Exar Kun II Posted May 28, 2002 Posted May 28, 2002 According to the books, Anakin and Obi Wan have a confrontation over a lava pit, Anakin falls in, Obi Wan believes him dead, but he is not.
GidionTheDead Posted May 28, 2002 Posted May 28, 2002 The novelizations are considered canon. The Expanded Universe books (the oens NOT about the movies) are not. And it was a pit with molten metal, if I remember correctly.
Redwing Posted May 28, 2002 Posted May 28, 2002 Actually, both are semicanon. The novelisations are simply higher canon. The movies, of course, are highest, ultimate canon.
Duncan Barr Posted May 29, 2002 Posted May 29, 2002 The EU is not canon one teeny little bit- thats why the Star Wars Databank has this seperate from the movies. Lucas himself has said that the books are not canon- and should simply be seen as an alternative universe. As for the Lava- its also in the original George Lucas written Star Wars novel, I also have reference to it in an original 1977 Star Wars postermag (remember these?)- this one has a huuuuge XWing poster in it. Curiously this stuff also refers to Stormtroopers as being clones. BUT check this out from the official StarWars site: http://www.starwars.com/databank/character/darthvader/index.html "Skywalker was seduced by the dark side of the Force. Fueled by rage and discontent with the pace of Obi-Wan's training, Anakin challenged his master to a duel. Despite newfound power bestowed by the dark side of the Force, which added to his already formidable abilities, Anakin was grievously wounded in the fight. His burning anger kept him alive, and he was forever scarred not only by his wounds but also by betrayal. He abandoned his former identity. When metal coupled with flesh in the form of cyborg implants and enhancements required to sustain him, Skywalker's transformation was complete. He was no longer Anakin. He was Darth Vader. "
