you want people to go easy on you?! have you read any of the posts in this forum?! ;) just kidding ... i hope you get a lot of helpful feedback.

i have yet to dabble in making models for jkII, so i really can't appreciate all the effort people put into them. but let me tell you that this guy ROCKS! as for any constructive criticism, here goes. i agree that his thighs need work ... looks like he has extremely large quads. the drapery thing you have going on extending below his belt could be extended even more - knee length? his forehead seems to protrude too far which kind of makes the nose look a little thin. HOWEVER, this last comment, i feel, could only apply if the guy is human ... is he? if not, let your imagination run wild.

that's my 2 cents ... keep us posted on progress, please. pretty pictures make us happy. keep up the great work!

Thank you for your comments. Tonight I plan on fixing the legs, and I will mess around with the head to try to make it look better.

I am hoping to release it with lots of skin variants, a custom lightsaber and cusotm taunts for each skin..

That's good.. very good actually. :)

I'm doing an original character as well.. and I was looking for a ... hmm how do you say... a Nemesis for him... your models seems to be matching my idea so far.

When you get him done wanna put our guys in a server and battle? ;)

If ya need any help just ask.

Watchout for the shoulders... they are really a B!tc# to animate correctly.

You don't know how good I feel right now. Being complimented by the two best modelers on the forum ^_^; Thanks much, guys, and thanks for the comments. I'm gonna concentrate on fixing the head tonight.

That'd be cool Bloodriot. My ping sucks, but it sounds like fun.

So far, my only worry is weighting the vertices..I have virtually no experience with the Skin modifier, so it's still kinda alien to me. What I was planning to do was weighting the entire piece of armor to the upper body, and weight the rest of the body as normal...how should I handle the, heh, loincloth? Should I wait the bottom vertices to the legs, and the upper ones to the hips?

Soul has a tute that covers the basic functions of the skin modifier;

Its worth checking out if your unsure of how to procede.

Your right about the loin cloth, it will need to be partially weighted to the legs and hips. You'll have to experiement and see what works best - because too much weighting to the legs will result in it jumping around like mad when he walks and too little will result in major clipping. Always compromise.

Thanks for the help, spacermonkey. Combined with your excellent tutorial, I should be able to figure everything out. Is there a way to find out if I have every single vertex weighted? Thats one of the problems I've had in the past..

Very, very nice. I like the concept. Just keep listening to the advice of the more experienced moders.

Me, ignore. I dont know sheeaht about modeling. But I do know what I like...

time to ask for a skinner in the skinning forum then, ;)

but for your other question, as far as I know theres no way to check in max wether all the verts are weighted - except by moving the whole damn thing ie (drag the pelvis bone - everything else should get dragged along too - if a vert has no weight it wont get dragged, then press undo) Theres bound to be a 'proper' way of doing, I just havent discovered it yet.

Just be careful who you let skin your model..ask for some samples of work first. There are some real hackjobs lurking around that forum....

Well guys, things are going pretty well...I took the face texture off the imperial officer and I've modified it alot, and looks good..kinda cheating, but oh well...I'll have an updated pic up tonight if I can break myself away from Morrowind :)

Well, for the name, I guess first we have to know if he's actually a Sith Lord, or just a Dark Jedi? If he's a Sith Lord, you should go with a Darth name. He looks to me like a Darth Brutal perhaps? :)
