I don't mind jar jar. He does get on my nerves a bit after watching the movie several times though. But overall, I find he's pretty cool. Actually he's pretty neat (notice how more people seem to be saying that these days; neat? )

I personally don't have a problem with Jar Jar's character. I do have a couple problems with the lines delivered ("exsqueeze me" for example, reeks too much of Wayne's World), but not with him overall. Reality check, there are people in this world who are socially inept, clumsy, who just don't fit in, and Jar Jar happens to be one of them. Fact is, there's a fair amount of population that would group anybody that argues about Star Wars in the same category as Jar Jar (i.e. socially inept). Does that make them in better? No.

Granted, maybe Lucas went a little overboard with Jar Jar, maybe placed a little too much emphasis on some of his social/physical faults. Maybe he didn't. Saying that he's not a good Star Wars character, or that he ruined the movie, or whatever just because of his personal hinderences is silly though. Like everyone in Star Wars is supposed to be socially adept with jedi reflexes... give me a break.

That's kind of how a lot of star wars characters show up.....Yoda in ESB...wicket in RotJ....it's an easy way to bring in a character......However.....i still hate JarJar......Simply because of his super annoyingness. Now i won't say it ruined star wars.....i loved episode 1.......but i hate Jar Jar and will hate him until he dies :D (and now he is the reason the emperor got so much power and the republic fell......that b@$tard)

Of course i'll point my finger at them.....perhaps in the book it was the jedi council that supported manipulating jarjar, but in the movie it was just palpatine and.....oh jeez, that one blue guy....i'll think of his name....and i think that the lives of obiwan anakin and padme are worth that of the thousands of jedi that would die as a result of palpatines rise to power

Perhaps, perhaps not. I find it a bit suspicious that Yoda and Windu were waiting in the wings of the senatorial halls for a vote to be cast and then yoda immediately set out to gather up the clone army. Seems like the were in on it to me...

Ok, first of all any arguement saying that Jar Jar was important because of his role as a senator is not valid when we are discussing whether or not he should have been in the movie. George Lucas could have put any number of characters in instead of the gungans (Aquatic Ewoks anyone?). It is clear that George did put Jar Jar in for comic relief, but as others have mentioned he simply wasn't funny. The stupid battle droids weren't funny either. The humor was very childish. In the OT, comic relief was provided through the droids (R2 & Threepio), ewoks, and sometimes the main characters. Note that all of the humor in OT WAS FUNNY. Luckily R2 and Threepio had a scene in AOTC which gives some hope that Jar Jar was just a one-episode mistake who will now be tucked away and forgotten, or better yet dismembered and thrown into the sarlacc. Unfortunately in Episodes 1&2 the main characters don't seem to provide any comic relief. This takes away from their personality majorly and is a reason their acting is criticized so much. Luke, Han Solo, Leia, Chewbacca, they were all great but if their humor was taken away they would be called bad actors just like the characters in Episodes 1&2 often are.

Well done RectalFury, I think exactly the same.

The main thing that made me angry with SW1 & SW2, is that when you are getting into the action scene which is very serious, some fool comes up with a corky joke for no reason.

Last time I said that, ET Worrior & MotionMan got angry with me.

They misunderstand, that I don't hate the new SW, but the stupid kiddie jokes ruin it. No one in the cinema was even laughing, not even the little kids.

George, no more bad timed corky jokes in SW3.

I didn't get mad that you talked about the jokes....i got mad because you can't spell my name right......:D

But i will disagree about the main characters not using humor....i laughed several times.......when obi wan tells anakin that he'll be the death of him..:) Or the whole exchange when obiwan gets into the speader

ObiWan: What took you so long

Anakin: Oh, you know master, i couldn't find a speeder i liked, one with an open cockpit and the right speed capabilities

ObiWan: If you spent as much time practicing your saber techniques as you did your wit you would rival master Yoda as a swordsman

Anakin: I thought i already did

ObiWan: Only in your mind my very young apprentice.

Or on Geonosis

ObiWan: Just keep focused

Anaking: What about Padme?

ObiWan: She seems on top of things

:D

Or Yoda

Lost a planet master obiwan has, how embarrassing, how Embarrasing......

The biggest problem is that Harrison Ford isn't in the movie.....it's hard to get someone that could pull off funny one-liners like he did......If you watch the OT you'll notice that it was basically him saying the funny things....occasionally leia, Yoda was funny, but luke almost never was.

I like the Yoda joke, as he was talking to kids, the rest i am sorry to say are either NOT funny, or have a bad delivery.

I agree that Han was able to pull it off, even as Indy it worked, but I am sorry, those jokes just made Obi Wan look stupis, come on, nobody in the cinema laughed at them.

You also have to see that in the new trilogy, the main charecters are Jedis. Jedis are not trained since childhood to be a walking comedy show. They are supose to be mindfull, wise, profesional ect.

This is how they are brought up. In the OT you see more wise cracks and jokes because the main charecters are not Jedi(Luke isnt a true jedi:) ).

I admit I did think those parts were funny, ET. The childish humor still can't be excused though. And Jedi can be funny MotionMan, just look at Yoda in ESB. The only other funny Jedi line in AOTC is when Mace says "This party's over." That was the best line in the entire movie.:mace::rofl:

I agree that Jedi can be funny. I did find the humor that some didnt catch very funny in the new movies.

Others didnt catch it cause they were expecting a more "IN YOUR FACE" type jokes like in the OT I guese.

It all has to do with how Jedi's are required to act. That doesnt mean they are stiffs. Like ET and RectalFury explained they do show some humor now and then.

How can you guys get so up set at Jar Jar Binks? He won the 1200m Race 5 at Eagle Farm. Sure he's no Mr Ed when it comes to humour but he's ok. Don't forget he is listed as a three year old so perhaps that might be where he gets his childish humour from.

He is listed as a 3 year old? I have never reallt thought about how old he was. So he is 3 years old in ep1? and 13 in ep2?

And he is making desicions that will affect the whole universe?

Didnt find Gen. Binks annoying, thought Gen Binks was funny, TPM would've been a failure without Binks.

Dont think Binks's character was racist or any other sort of ist,it seem only folks in the USA think that

Reckon George tore the heart and soul out of Binks in AOTC's, it wasnt as good as TPM, I put a 1000 year hex on him for that

Top bloke Jar Jar Binks.
