How did so many Jedi get killed?

In the arena battle at the end of the EpII why do you think that so many of the jedi got killed?

Through much debate among star wars fanatics i have personally concluded that out of the 50-200 (though 200 seems far to many but someone said the book EpII stated 200 jedi) jedi present in the arena only about 20 survived (saw the movie again to count them). Our guess is that if about 40-50 jedi went and fought then about half were Masters and the other half padwons and mabye a few Knights to explain the math. If you remember in the movie Mace Windo said to gather all AVALIBLE jedi to go and help fight, and knowing that the jedi are the defenders of the peace most were probably out doing just that in a HUGE galaxy of approxmently 100,000-500,000 or more different planets with sencient life on them.

So most only padwons were killed not knights or Masters.

i believe all of them could reflect all the blaster shots away frm themselves but i think a reason why most were killed was because the jedis were busy blocking shots frm the droids (and doing DFA :D ) that they did not anticipate shots frm the other jedis' lightsaber... look at how obiwan block each shot frm jango fett...all of them werent directed back at the bountyhunter, and how mace windu blocked jango's also! the reflected shots were just out-of-control~!:(

I just think they were unlucky... and 3 or 4 shots were coming at them from different directions at the same time, and they died cuz obviously they couldn't block it.

however just because the Jedi are defenders of the Galaxy doesn't mean there's a lot of them. Jedi are notorious for being spread too thin across the galaxy. (ask anyone who reads the EU.)

What happened to all the jedi who weren't killed? When I watched EPII, it seemed like a lot of jedi survived. But at the end, we only see that Yoda, Mace, Obi Wan, and Anakin are left. Is it assumed that the other jedi were killed in the arena or on the transports during the huge battle? I didn't think that many transports were blown up...

Did I miss something?

And yeah...there must have been other jedi spread around the galaxy...at least a few who couldn't get there in time and therefore survived. AND, there are the children Padawans that yoda was teaching...they must still be around...and they are kinda jedi:p

Many of them died while they were typing, got lagged out, or fell victim to cheap backstabs, DFA, and spamming of the secondary repeater and Flechette. Several were also drain/gripped and pushed off ledges. The rest were vote-kicked for winning too much.

there are ten thousand jedi in the galaxy. i think the 200 that Windu took were the available ones on Coruscant. In the scene where Yoda is on his little hover chair, you see a bunch of jedi walking around in the hallway. These could be some of the knights that Mace took. Maybe not all of the Jedi on Corusacant are Council members. The council might keep a jedi "reserve" in case a situation like this should arise.
