mcowart
Ok, i'm fairly new at this, but is there a way to make a texture shiny? Say I wanted a surface to look like highly polished marble (partially reflective). How would I go about doing that? I've looked at some shader tutorials, but I couldn't find anything having to do with reflections. Thanks
Klorel
I'm actually trying to find out the same thing.
Derisor
You will have to use a shader for sure!
Catscratch
wht does partially reflective mean btw ?
Derisor
I immagine he means like that nice polished tile surface in the foyer at work. It reflects but not true reflection.
Derisor
It would kill framerate though .
Emon
Kill framerate? Certantly not. If you want to actually be able to look at your face in the floor, but have a distorted reflection, well I'm afraid something that good isn't possible on the Q3 engine. However, remember when you enter the post on Kejim, the floors have a shine but are not reflective? That's a simple multitexturing effect. Look in the kejim shader and see if you can find that one. Also, for making shaders, ShaderEd2 in your Tools folder is the best for JO. This Quake III shader bible also has a ton info and explinations, but I'm afraid you'll be somewhat more in the dark about the new stuff added for JO. Xcom
Yep, I must say that making really distorted reflection is beyond q3 engine, however making vague, blurry real reflection is very much possible as can be seen in this screenshot.
Emon
9 FPS...
Xcom
9fps because a) I have bad specs (16mb GFx card) b) I have 15 reborns spawned.
Klorel
Xcom, thats exactly what i'm looking for, could you maybe email me the shader you used on it? that would be great. [its not actually for a level i'm doing, but i'm helping Altimira with one he's doing] but its kind of secretive now until we get a little more done. you guys are going to love it, lets just leave it at that for now.
