Eklin
I can't believe nobody has made this yet. Well, anyways... I was wondering if anybody with good mapping skills would care to make a map of the planet Kamino from Episode 2. It could have the entire cloning facility (including the landing bay with the Slave I and everything else), and rather than having a bottomless pit, you could have a raging ocean all around. But, making a splash would be hard, so rather than having you die when you hit the ocean, you can have it so the facility is fairly high up (like in the movie) and you die BEFORE you hit, while you're falling. Just an idea.
Xcom
oh-oh, I wonder what Rich has to say about this :D

Eklin
I've already read through that thread, and it's just a duel map. I'm thinking of an entire FFA map with the whole cloning station. Not just the landing platform (but it would also be included).
RichDiesal
I would love for someone else to do this map. Although I would note that the AotC TC people (I assume you guys are still going?) are likely going to make an SP map of this area and if you begged them nicely, they might make a FFA conversion? The problem with Kamino is that it's a gigantic open area with thousands of curves... I know for sure that the JK2 engine could not handle the city how I would make it, which is why I'm not doing it. Eklin
I think I may start learning mapping skills so that I can do this. It may be cool.
VIO
DAMN THOSE FREAKY TALL ALIENS AND THEIR CURVES!! rich i feel your pain but just think! hes going to try and make the INSIDE of that place, large rooms pretty fx buckets o models and moving things and tons and tons of doughnutshaped birthing pods!!!! can you say fps = -500 //edit hmm that might come off as mean. go for it man try and make that map its a worthy cause and in the end its worth your effort even if you just learn to map! RichDiesal
Well, the insides probably wouldn't be all that difficult to keep framerates reasonably low... would just need long sets of curves... it'll just be any outside areas. Go look at my duel_kamino thread at the last alpha screenshot listing... that is already pushing my GeForce2 down to 30fps with a dueling partner at the most complex points... now if you want to recreate that but with 10 times as many buildings... along with up to 30 people playing on it... well, good luck to you . cabraswel
I've recently been rebelling against curves. I can get almost the same effect with a bunch of brushes and keep framerates just as high, if not higher. The only bitch is actually modeling it. I thing a reasonable good exterior of an entire Kamino building with all of it's landing platforms, catwalks, spires, and maybe some of the external machinery could be made.... Maybe frame-rates wouldn't be satisfactory, but perhaps--just perhaps playable.... Or maybe I'm being hopelessly optimistic?

The Truthful Liar
I'm working on an FFA version of the Kamino area. yeah dunno what else to say besides that [Edit: and no I dont feel like giving off screenshots, I have way too much on my hands. Maybe later ] G'night to you all, I shall return once again tomorrow
RichDiesal
Is it mostly outside? Just curious... I was having real problems with framerates when I had other platforms nearby (it was large enough for FFA before but I was getting horrible r_speeds, upwards of 28k)
DukeSkywalker
A SP map about the cloning station would be amazing!!!!

Eklin
Well, if I'm going to do this, I'm gonna need to be pointed in the right direction. If anybody could give me the URL to a good site with a tutorial in map making, and some of the necessary tools, that'd be great. Thanks.
