Kengo
OK, have built an SP level, done a final compile - Fullvis (extra) [i think?], was wondering how I get from all these different types of file for the same map... LIN, BAK, MAP and BSP to a pk3 file? Also, is there anything else I need to do (am working on the readme)? Any other useful things I should know? Any help much appreciated. Gideon
how about telling us what your level is all about? Sorry, can't help you. I can annoy you though but something tells me that that isn't what you want me to do so I'll be on my way now. "I declare that I'm a complete idiot and therefore not responsible for my actions!" Grets Sirob
You have a leak, .lin files only appear if you have a leak. Fix that, then do whatever you have to do, k? :no wampa smily:mad: make one!: Roar!
Kengo
:S Thanks for pointing that out, <stupid question> will the map still play OK with a leak just outa interest? </stupid question>
Xcom
THat depends on what you understand by "OK"? But, if you mean whether it will load in the game, IIRC - yes.
Kengo
Ah For me OK means it won't actually destroy someones computer - I set myself high standards! So the LIN filoe I don't need, the MAP file is presumably the file the editor uses, so don't need that in the pk3 file, I feel a bit silly as I looked through the other threads some more and found that you gotta download that program to make pk3s, bloody fileplanet with a 35 minute queue just to start downloading! The one I'm not sure about...do I need to put that .bak file into the pk3 as well as the .bsp file?
Grets Sirob
Nope, the .bak file is a backup file for if your map somehow implodes. So no, you don't need it. :no wampa smily:mad: make one!: Roar!
Kengo
Thanks for making that clear Grets , right, I think its nearly done (rubs hands)
Kengo
Map is done, zipped up and has been sent to all the jk2 sites I can think of, thanks a lot for all the help everyone BTW, incase anyone else has same problems I had with all this pk3 suff, best tutorial I found on it was: http://planetquake.com/bubba/pk3.html I'll post some blatant-attempt-to-get-publicity thread as soon as (if) map is put up on these sites, I've already got a sneaky plan to essentially make another level from the same piece of dough...... Xcom
Did you fix the leak?
Kengo
Welllllllll........on later extract I don't think I got a .lin extension file, if there is still a leak it should be a small one, hopefully
Kengo
Ah, I think I worked out what the leak was - using a partially see through floor texture with nothing below However, on the plus side the level ends the moment you enter that room, so shouldn't be a problem play-wise, the level seems to run fine
Xcom
There shouldn't be any leaks. PERIOD. Don't get me wrong but realeasing a map with a leak will significantly spoil your rating. open the console in the game, usually you'll see: ************ LEAKED ************ in purple or red. If you don't see it, you are saved.
Kengo
Whew! I checked the console and found no mention of anything leaked, nor any purple or red textures, hurrah!
