Jedi_Monk
Check this out; it's the second draft of Star Wars written in 1975 - http://www.starwarz.com/starkiller/illustrated/thestarwars_second_draft.htm It's very different from what Lucas ended up doing, but there are similarities... Also, there's reference to Jedi Padawan Learners, and one of the character who dies (and is actually Luke's brother in this draft) is named Cliegg. So, here's a little piece of dialogue from The Star Wars that might explain some of what happens in Episode III: As the Republic spread throughout the galaxy, encompassing over a million worlds, the GREAT SENATE grew to such overwhelming proportions that it no longer responded to the needs of its citizens. After a series of assassinations and elaborately rigged elections, the Great Senate became secretly controlled by the Power and Transport guilds. When the Jedi discovered the conspiracy and attempted to purge the Senate, they were denounced as traitors. Several Jedi allowed themselves to be tried and executed, but most of them fled into the Outland systems and tried to tell people of the conspiracy. But the elders chose to remain behind, and the Great Senate diverted them by creating civil disorder. The Senate secretly instigated race wars, and aided anti-government terrorists. They slowed down the system of justice, which caused the crime rate to rise to the point where a totally controlled and oppressive police state was welcomed by the systems. The Empire was born. Rogue Nine
Lucas was on something in the 70's. Everyone was. That might explain a few things.

Nebelwerfer_
After reading the script, i'd have to say it resembles Lord of the RIngs a lot: 1)A hero bearing a very powerful artifact which, if fallen into enemy hands will bring great chaos (kiber crystal / the one ring) 2) Luke starkiller and frodo baggins at first dont really want to get involved and are pushed by others and eventually become enthusiastically involved. 3) Luke and the two droids are like frodo and merry and pippen. 4)the places they go, and the order they go to them are very much similar to LOTR. I'm not saying lucas is ripping jr tolkien off, he was probly just smoking some MJ and reading LOTR when he wrote the scripts for "the adventures of luke starkiller"
MotionMan
But ultimately the story didnt go that way right? He changed it for the final version. I dont think it was a rip off. Besides IF it was, we already have stated that every movie made has had elements of other sources. Thats just the way things are.

Jaster21801
They were originally gonna call him Luke Starkiller but (from what I heard) they thought the foreshadowing was too obvious. So they changed the name... Obviously Starkiller is the one who destroys the Death STAR. Perhaps Skywalker means a good pilot.
Jedi_Monk
I'm pretty sure that's not genuine... It is indeed genuine. I've heard bits and pieces of it before, and the "behind the scenes" section of the SW database on http://www.starwars.com corraborates it (for instance, it says that the name Valorum was originally to be the name of a Sith prince who was very similar to Vader... and so he is in this version). Nebelwerfer_
Yah definately genuine, The concept art has been around ever since ANH came out and some of the art matches the story . For instance, I have the starwars soundtrack on cd and on it there is a drawing of chewbaca holding lukes brother and some stormtroopers holding lazer swords, there is another drawing that came with it showing Deak sword fight Vader. heh, boghan force... lol:D
