MP Crashes after a bit of gameplay

Alright, before the patch(not blaming the patch, it very well could've been something else) I could play JK2 Multiplayer without a problem in the world. Now on the other hand, it crashes mid gameplay.

It could be mid-map, or after a map change as soon as I get in the game, I could be alive or dead. Or mid attack for that matter.

I've disabled loading all new models when I die, and tried, same results. I've played with that enabled and not enabled. I've turned off EAX Sound, same problem.

As a result, I've updated my video card and sound card drivers. Below are my computer specs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

AMD Athlon XP 2100+

ASUS K7V333 Motherboard

1GB DDR PC2700 RAM

NVidia GeForce 4 Ti 4600 - 29.42 drivers

Sound Blaster Audigy - Latest drivers

Windows XP Professional

Game Settings:

Video -

GL Extensions - ON

Resolution - 1280x1024

Everything is set to High, I've also tried Medium.

Trilinear, also tried Bilinear.

And yes, not sure if it would be an issue, it is a real copy of the game, with the CD running.

Running XP, it doesn't perform an "illegal operation" it just brings up the System Error dialog box that XP has, and asks if I want to send an error report.

Thanks for any and all help on this matter.

Running 2 dedicated servers, not being able to play put's a damper on things.

Well, my Boss as well as our Hardware guy are working on the problem. I've contacted LucasArts Support, as well, I'm working on a few things.

I'm going to see if MatrixCPA can help as well. I will do my best to find a solution to this problem, because I have to be able to play JK2.

I'll let you know as soon as I find out.

But for now, let's hope for the kindness of strangers.

Well, I found a solution for my problem, specific to my motherboard.

First, I did a reinstall of Windows XP, straight over the existing installation, then installed the latest Via 4-in-1 Drivers from http://www.viaarena.com.

After that, I reinstalled the 29.42 drivers from http://www.nvidia.com for my GeForce 4.

Now everything is running beautifully again, with killer FPS.

Wicked - I'm wondering why that worked for you if the game worked prior to the patch with the same drivers?

Hmm - I'm having this problem too - does it crash for you guys if you start a MP game too? It does on my end.

I'm running XP with relatively recent via drivers on a Radeon 8500 with the new Catalyst drivers and the latest JO patch. No MP whatsoever, but SP plays fine.

I uninstalled JO and installed using the default dir, ran the patch and played: same result.

I uninsatlled, reinstalled but DIDN'T install the patch but I haven't had a chance to see if that really has worked yet. I did start an MP game w/ some bots, but I was busy doing other things so I couldn't really play, but it did sit there for 10 mins or so running aparently just fine. <shrug> maybe there is something in the patch that doesn't work with non-latest via drivers?? (stabbing in the dark here)

well, I got mine working last night.

I had already reinstalled JO w/out the patch.

I went and downloaded the latest Via's.

I re-downloaded the patch.

Boom, everything works again.

So I'm guessing that either the first patch file I d/l was bad or maybe there was some conflict w/ the 1.03a patch and my old via's?

not sure, but I'm mucho relieved

Im running a P3, 1.1 GHZ, G-Force2go, 512 ram, XP, Toshiba Laptop, Same Crashing problem happens to me. Instead of an error, mine just... Freezes, I have to physically shut it off to continue using my laptop. Any Ideas on mine, since G-Force2Go dont really have driver upgrades (none that Ive found)..

As well, I've found some simple solutions to all of these problems. You need to uninstall JK2. Update your video card drivers, update your soundcard drivers, install JK2. Restart before playing. play, do whatever, re-download the patch. Install the patch, play.

Dun dun dunnnnn you're done. If that doesn't work e-mail me. I've had to fix this a few times for customers. tim@ilangame.com
