Well, I didn't think there was a real difference until I read this article, which of course, I cannot find now. The way it was explained, while Dark Jedi and Sith are both practitioners of the Dark Force, the Sith are on a more evolved level in terms of the Force. Also, the Sith Lords practice archane arts like black magic and sorcery(which i already knew). :D

This difference goes back to the time of Exar Kun.:)

A Dark Jedi is a Jedi who fell to the Dark Side, a Sith is a practicioner of the Sith arts. A Dark Jedi can become a Sith, but he had to be a Jedi first. Palpatine and Darth Maul are only Sith Lords, Darth Vader and Count Dooku are both Sith Lords and Dark Jedi.

They can be enemies, but since Dark Jedi aren't a formalized group, they don't have to be enemies.

if im not mistaken any power that directly causes death or destruction is a sith power and light jedi are forbidden to use them

direct such as the force lightning dooku and the emperor use, or the force grip vader uses in a new hope

lightsaber combat is not direct because the use of them is not inherently 'evil', while killing through such means as lightning or grip is

correct me if im wrong, thats just my understanding
