Swifty
Good post. It shows you don't understand what the debate is about. We're talking about the STORY, not the effects. The effects are NOT the story, they are a vehicle to advance the STORY. Take Jurrasic Park 1 and 2. 2 had better effects, CG evolved more. But the STORY sucked. The example of Aliens given before works too. 3 and 4 had a crappy STORY. Starting to get it yet? Movies are STORIES. As for technology, it's a tool. Because it exists doesn't mean you're obliged to use it. Some people use a Palm Pilot, others use a daytimer. Neither will MAKE you organised, they are TOOLS to HELP you organise. Better effects similarly doesn't mean a better movie. As for living in the past, you're saying that all new stuff beats all dated stuff, or else you're living in the past? Now who's being myopic? Ahhh, the new Planet of the Apes is better than the original because it's newer with better effects. Good logic, chucky. As for expectations, of course I expect the prequels to be as good as the OT. You said yourself it's the same creator. And he's had 16 years to work on the STORY. As for bloodbaths, I never asked for one. I stated that the OT SHOWED us the evil, the prequels TELL us. Just like I'm not TELLING people you're clueless, I'm SHOWING people by proving you wrong. In both cases, the second option is more powerful and convincing. MotionMan
About the special effects I was responding to mez's comments. Next time ill say his name for you slower individuals. I never said that having better special effects makes the movie. Oh well the OT hardcore fanboys will never except the new flicks even if they are the same overall. You dont like the new flicks--- There is a simple solution to your pathetic nitpicking. dont watch them. Its as simple as that. When ep. 3 comes out youll be at home watching the OT right? Please. Youll be the first in line to see it, while boring the other people waiting with how lucas and the new flicks arnt' up to par with the OT. Man those people are annoying;)
Swifty
Originally posted by Swifty Having said all this, the worst SW is head and shoulders above any other flick IMO. Try to take it easy. Plus this behavior leads to high blood pressure:)
mez1109
MotionMan ther is always someone like you in a forum. Cool down, listen to people, as I listen to you and sometimes agree that you have a point and I am wrong. I am not trying to kill you or anything. We all love Star Wars, and yes, even if SW3 is the biggest pile of crap, I am still going to watch it. I've been trying to say that I liked SW1 & 2, but I have seen better. I don't want the old Star Wars, is just that George said he deliver something NEW and BETTER, over hyped the movie, but I am sorry, alot of people did not see that delivered. His new SW1&2, are not in any way a movie revolution, but just looks like a cheap money making sceam. If SW1-3 were so good, how come he did not release them first, probably he became a better writter after his first 3 stories, and decided to make changes. Like the director of Alien later directs GLADIATOR, he improved on his cababilities, and made a better Movie. Also a VERY GOOD STORY dosen't make a Excellent MOVIE, alot of movies that everyone loves have a ****y story-line. Take face-off for example, John Woo makes crapy stories into Excellent Movies. There are alot of movies out there that beat SW1&2, new movies not old ones.
Jedi_Monk
Star Wars is basically a dystopia, which is why it has endured the aging process for me. The entire saga works on so many levels, it captured me as a toddler with the Ewoks (I actually saw Return of the Jedi before any of the other movies), it kept my attention through my love of King Arthur with its epic battle of good and evil, and now I'm into dystopias (1984, Brave New World, Farenheit 451, It Can't Happen Here) and Star Wars still captivates my imagination. The Prequels add a kind of depth that I could never imagine-- something that the books that sustained me until Episode I never hinted at. And it's a cautionary tale as relevant today as ever before. The Empire is a corporate state, it is what happens when corporations hold too much interest in the government. Neither the Republic nor the Sepratists are now the right side, because they are both facist, and the Empire rises out of a combination of the two. Democracy was lost because the people let themselves be manipulated by a conspiracy of two men and their pawns. And it can happen here.
mez1109
That is what i also want from a good Movie, to draw me into it. I like a good movie, like anyone else, normally bad graphics don't put me of a movie, but the childish way this movie was made with corky computer graphics sometimes put me off the movie. No matter how much I want that I loved Star Wars, I can only say that I was dissapointed, but of course other people might have loved it. For example, I hated Mission Impossible 2, while others loved it.
ET Warrior
I love Star Wars I love episode 2...la dee dee.....and you guys are mean to motion man...he's not being rude...he's simply pointing out the flaws in your reasoning, that you cannot judge and say that George Lucas is doing a bad job.....because he is creating entire worlds and creatures and whatnot. I mean, name one person who could do it better......he may be a genious, but Lucas is still only human. And then you guys get so mad when we don't just drop down and agree with you. Well i'm very sorry that we thought episode 2 had an excellent story, and i'm also very sorry that we don't think you are the smartest people on earth....but that's just how it is
