Cant get games to load :(

Hey everyone, i posted this on tech help board, didnt get any responses. I am hoping maybe you guys can help me :) I am at a relatives house, using a pentium 3 500mhz comp, 16mb ATI rage 128 card, and 192 ram. When I load up a saved game or a new game, the load screen just sits there, I dont get a blue loading bar, and after like 10 seconds it just freezes. I have to restart the computer when it does this. Right after I installed the game, I was able to play, but when I quit and came back to it, this started happening. If someone can help me fix this I would be very greatful.

Well, let's start with the Windows tech support angle... format and reinstall...

 

I don't know if this will help, but it's possible it could... Try replacing your assets.pk3 files with the ones on the CD... I don't think it'll help, but it's worth a try

Are you using an "imported" save file? (ie one which you took from home)

 

Have you tried starting a new game, saving and reloading right after saving (does the quick save/load keys cause the same problem).

 

I assume you've tried the standard switch off, wait 10 and restart, and closed EVERYTHING in the background that is irrelevant (take a check for spyware too, which infest relatives computers like rats in a grain silo - download Ad-Aware, http://www.lavasoft.nu it's quite small and VERY helpful).

 

Have a go with that and get back with the results. This does really belong in the TS forum, but I'll see what I can do here.

what level are you playing...I had awful load times on ns_streets..then it cleared up after that..I mean load times that made you think the computer had locked up...but I just had to wait 4 or 5 minutes to get the saber progress meter...all my load probs have dissapeared after completing ns_streets tho..

One of the things I look for is inactive drivers causing conflicts - you happen to have one..

boot your machine into safemode and remove the extra driver.. in case you don't know how to do this:

 

1. when booting hit F8 repeatedly until you have a DOS menu with "safemode" as one of the choices - choose it

 

2. when booted in safemode go to start > control panel > system

 

3. click on the device manager tab and go to display adapters

 

4. remove the second video driver (or disable it)

 

5. reboot normally

 

6. try running the game again, hopefully it work okay now..

I recommend removing it.. you see, with extra drivers loading in the background Windoze gets confuzed and that's why you can have problems, although sometimes it seems to chug along.. I had a friend who had sound problems and couldn't figure it out with uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers.. after booting into safemode I found he had 2 drivers loaded but in normal mode only one shows up.. after removing the duplicate sound was restored.. I have seen many people with inactive video and/or sound drivers that don't even realize it..

 

you should remove that extra video driver chopp3r.. use the steps I outlined and all should be good..
