D.L.
Right, I started a project (keeping it under wraps at the moment) last night. Basically I just need some help with shapes. 1) How do I make spheres!? 2) How do I make solid cylinders/circles!? 3) What modelling software is best and (most importantly) is there a 30 day trail with it as I just need to make some basic entities. 4) I want a wrap around cylinder (ie a handrail) butI can't get it curved at the edges. Any ideas!? 5) Can I increase the opacity of a texture!? 6) Where are the glass textures in radiant? 7) Is it possible to have flicking Neon like textures and if so, how is it possible?! 8) Is there any light and mirror tutorials around which are pretty good!? Probably should throw in a paking tutorial there too. Should be done in ((about) a week. I've made most of my own textures so far (which turned out nicely if I don't say so myself ) Thanks

VIO
1: in gtk radiant go to brushes then primatives 2: make a brush go to curves and hit cylinder 3:modeling software isn't used for maps if you are talking about modeling, IE: making models like people the your in the wrong forum, but FOR modeling im not sure wat you need, i beilve gmax which is free, and milkshape3d which cost 20 dollars after the 30 day trial or you could just get 3dmax studio which is the best but is expensive, FOR mapping get gtk radaint and jkiiradaint, i use gtk for editing and textureing and, jkii for post final compiling because it show the progress 4:explain more 5: you mean making it darker? or sort of tranparant, that im not sure on you need to make a custom shader 6: common 7: yes, sort of read the FAQ sticky at the top of page 1 8: yes also in the stickies up top but here are some really good ones http://planetquake.com/bubba/mapping.html....this is a q3 tut but many of the same thing apply to jkii this goes for all q3 tuts http://richdiesal.jedioutcastmaps.com/main/index.html exellent tuts made for jkii but not finished yet but still good to read Rich will get you started in mapping the right way
Manquesa
1. make a cone, press v and shape it into a half sphere as close as you can get it, then copy it and put the 2 together 2. make a dense cylinder or thicken a regular cylinder, also cap off the ends by going to cureves>cap. 3. 3DStudio Max, but it's super expensive, check out this thread though -- http://64.246.44.70/~lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=62680 4. make your cylinder, then press v and then just move the vertices around till you get to your desired shape. You can also add more patch points by going to curve>insert and then select either rows or columns. This may or may not be necessary, it depends on whether or not you can get the shape you want with the patch points already given. 5. huh? 6. they're in the common texture set 7. you can have flickering light entities by setting a certain style number to it. As for flickering textures, you'd have to make a shader for it am i'm really not entirely sure if it is possilbe as i've yet to try my hand at making shaders. 8. check out the sticky's at the top of this forum for links, also check out RichDiesal's tutorial at http://richdiesal.jedioutcastmaps.com/ Edit: I forgot to put the link for #3. Manquesa
dammit, I was still typing when you posted VIO. Oh well.
D.L.
Thanks for the reply. Regarding cylinders, I know how to make them, but they end up hollow (ie with no center so it's like say, a straw) I'm trying to make a solid one. modeling software isn't used for maps if you are talking about modeling, IE: making models like people the your in the wrong forum, but FOR modeling im not sure wat you need, i beilve gmax which is free, and milkshape3d which cost 20 dollars after the 30 day trial or you could just get 3dmax studio which is the best but is expensive, FOR mapping get gtk radaint and jkiiradaint, i use gtk for editing and textureing and, jkii for post final compiling because it show the progress No not player models. I meant like map objects (.md3 files) which would be (for this project) Stools (not like that! ) and Beer Glasses. I downloaded the Milkshape trial and I'll give that a shot. explain more Alrighty. Basically I have a counter. I want to have a handrail going along the side of the counter, all around it. I can use 3 cylinders to give this effect but you have bits where the cyliners don't match up, so is there a way to merge them so they are interconnected. If you need I can get a Radiant picture if that is helpful. Thanks again for the reply.

VIO
Regarding cylinders, I know how to make them, but they end up hollow (ie with no center so it's like say, a straw) ok well cool... cylinders a holow because they are patch meshes and there not even really hollow they have no inside you can travel in them unless you curves->thicken them BUT if you want them to just solid with ends and you don't want to go inside them klike a tunnel do select your cylinder and then go to curves->endcap->normal endcap that should make two ends for your cylinder Alrighty. Basically I have a counter. I want to have a handrail going along the side of the counter, all around it. I can use 3 cylinders to give this effect but you have bits where the cyliners don't match up, so is there a way to merge them so they are interconnected. after you got your cylinder in the basic place you want them select one an hit V the just bend the vertexs how ever you want
D.L.
Thanks again! Looking better now though it still needs a bit of work. One question. For the spheres it asked for number of sides. Spheres don't have sides I'm making snooker balls so how many "sides" should I have!?
Manquesa
As I said before -- 1. make a cone, press v and shape it into a half sphere as close as you can get it, then copy it and put the 2 together But if want want to do it the other way, just pick a high number, just don't go too high. maybe 24 or 36, I don't know. D.L.
http://www.csn.ul.ie/~chrislad/mainmoe.jpg Here's the project. Moe's Tavern That's quickly texture just to give a rough guide. It's coming along nicely. I have the toilet out of shot and I may add the basement, if only as a pit. It's going to be very interactive and I'm making a remix of the simpsons theme song with quotes for the music. Just need to make a few models now
