nomad
I'm trying to place a new pk3 file into the base folder. I made a new bot file and jkb file, took the sound, scripts, model, and botfiles folders... compressed them together, renamed the file hansolo.pk3, placed it into the base folder... and it does not appear in-game at all. When I compress the folders together, it makes a Winzip file. When I look at it's properties it says that the file is a "Winzip File", and NOT a "pk3 file". What am I doing wrong? This is my first attempt, so... I hope someone can kick me in my ass and help me get past this silliness. Also, I can't figure out how to use Winace to compress the folders together. I have XP, and I just right click and choose send to compressed folder, which then turns them into a Winzip file. I don't know if this is a problem or not. Samuel Dravis
i don't know about XP and i don't use winzip, but when i compress mods i just put the folders in C drive. so, if i edited the npcs.cfg, i would put ext_data in C. under that i would put the npcs.cfg. to compress to pk3, i use QuickZip, availible here. then i compress and put it in /gamedata/base/ and play. nomad
I'm not quite getting you. I'm not familiar with what "ext_data" is I've tried putting the folders in C drive, and I still get the same results. I'll try Quickzip. I can't believe I'm having problems with making a pk3 file. I need to get past this so I can actually create stuff! LOL at myself! I could use a step by step guide on how to pack all the files to make one pk3 file. NickR
Err. You do know that you should have compression set to "None" when you zip your folders don't you?
defalc
To make a pk3 using winzip: -Open Winzip -Create a new archive, but set the filetype to 'All files' and name the pk3 file blahblah.pk3 -Then drag the folder/s or file/s into the pk3. nomad
Ahh, so that's how you pack it with winzip. Thanks I actually switched to Packscape, which is quite handy. It seems to have been made with pk3 files in mind. I've gotten my bot to work in game, but now I cannot get the custom sounds to work. I've placed the custom sound files into the sounds/chars/hansolo/misc folder. The files are mp3's, but when I check it in game, the taunt is the default reborn's. In the models/players/hansolo folder, there is the sound.cfg and I've changed that to take the sounds from the hansolo model. [ chars/hansolo/misc m ] Does any one have an idea of what I'm missing? Is there an "Adding Custom Sound Files" Tutorial? Thanks for the help. With a little help, I'll get this soon enough. -nomad MTFBWY
