Vampire Hunter D model finished

Hey everybody, I just wanted to let everyone know that Vampire Hunter D's Vampire Hunter D model (damn that sounds repetetive...) is just about finished. (All I have to do is get the LODs done). Here's some screens of him in game (these are singleplayer shots, I have him replacing Luke) -

What does everybody think? This is my first attempt at getting a model in game, and it only took a week of sleepless nights to do it :) . The cape especially was a bitch to weight.

Here comes a (polite) rant:

I do have something to say about spacermonkey's tutorial, though. While it is very useful, it leaves out a whole lot of information that a newb needs to get a model in game (not telling which bone to weight the right hand to for the saber to work correctly being only one). I'm not knocking it, without it I wouldn't have even known where to start, but it seems more useful now that I know the whole process. I fully understand people on these forums ranting about the whole process (I know I wanted to, and listening to Vampire Hunter D (the modeler) made me want to scream sometimes).

</end rant>

Oh well, water under the bridge I guess.

BTW, does anybody on here want to tackle a Link model? I'm working on the SP Hyrule Castle map (I know there hasn't been any updates for a while, I've been busy :( ), and would love to have a Link model to go with it. I'd do it myself, but I have exactly 0 (nil, nada, none) artistic skills.

If somebody here were willing to actually make the model and skin him, I would do all the drudge work of getting him in game.

I agree with Delmar.

If you now know more detailed information than what is presented in spacermonkey's tutorial (especially since you are mentioning it's shortcomings in your post) then please ask permission from spacermonkey to revise his tutorial and provide the new information to the rest of us.

This contribution would be worth more than several player models as it will allow many more of us to create the future models correctly instead of having to experience the same struggles you have recently triumphed over.

Why constantly re-invent the wheel?

i don't know who vampire hunter d is, but it's a *BLEEP* cool model. you could've said it was a dark jedi concept that was created and i would've bought it. i think he could pass as some kind of dark jedi/sith, especially b/c he's wearing so much black and has that cool @$$ hat. superb work!

btw, how did you get the saber to be white like that? it's SO sweet.

I am seriously considering it. If I have the time, I probably will either ask for permission to update spacermonkey's tutorial or just make a new one. I would rather updated spacermonkey's, because it covers most everything, it's just missing a few important things for a newb.

I see you finished... but from the screens from what I can tell is that his clothes are uhhh, wrong. I posted this in the last topic but here it is again..

I'm not the modeler, I just got him in game. You'd have to talk to Vampire Hunter D about that. I have exactly 0 artistic skills, so that's beyond my power to fix. If you want, I'm sure you could make a skin for him.

The model is mostly finished, but I have to fix 1 problem before he's ready to be released (while using the fast stance, the left arm sticks through the chest).

I've got his sword made and it works in JK2 mtrixman. I'm going

to upload the .pk3 as soon as I get permission to use the sword

swinging sounds from the knightswords.pk3 from whoever made

it.

Oh yeah the sword is not just a drawn saber. It's a real model

and the saber is made invisible with it. It's really cool.
