Lord JayVizIon
You guys tell me. the one thing that starcraft had over AoE was the fact that terrain plays a great deal in gameplay. for example, units perched atop ridges and such had a better chance of squashing their enemies because they were at a higher level. in AoE, the best thing to do is to build a wall around your town. how will swbg handle this. more than likely, it'll go the AoE route. however, a terrain like those in starcraft add more to strategy than a flat terrain such as that on AoE. tell me what you think. who knows? lucasarts may find a way to put this in... Guest Tie Guy
Yeah, they'll probably jsut take the route that AOE took, but you never know. This isn't just a AOK remake.
TheJackal_jk2
Age2 DID have terrain advantages and disadvantages. It was just a lot less obvious as StarCraft because everything was flued and stuck together. In starcraft the only way to get to and off one level was by a specific ramp. NOTE: In age2 there was a cliff mapy type layer. It does look a lot like some map terrain from StarCraft, but in my opinion a lot better since the cliff doesn,t need a damn ramp to get to the top. Age2 was ment to look more realistic, it did its job well. The cliff and level of the terrain weren't unhocked everywhere.
Guest Tie Guy
I wonder if you can change the ground level in the editor, so you could make a huge mountain in the middle of teh map. That would be interesting.
Lord JayVizIon
Hey tie, i think all of us "original swgb board members" should come together to make a map and maybe form a clan for multiplayer. if multiplayer is based on ladder play like that in starcraft, this could be the beginning of a beautiful thing... Guest Tie Guy
Hmm, that probably would be fun, even though i'm not that into multiplayer anymore, i think i'm going to start again for this game.
Darth_Rommel
In AoE , if you were on a hill, and were a range unit you had more range ---------------------- --------
Guest Tie Guy
Nice inllustration Rom. [sarcasm] That really cleared things up. I don't think i would have gotten it without your picture. [/sarcasm]

Guest Starnick10287
In The Conquers(expansion pack to Aok)there are mountain land forms you can place on maps, so GB might have something like that too.
Lord JayVizIon
my thing is that i wonder if units can take cover (camouflage) behind certain terrain features, such as starcraft. it makes for some great ambushes and booby traps.
Guest Tie Guy
Hmm, that would be cool, but i don't know how similar this will be to starcraft.
Lord JayVizIon
well, if swbg is gonna borrow any ideas from starcraft besides air units, definitely camouflage. trees, rocks, etc.
Clefo
Oh yes the eternal joy of hiding your seige mode tank behind a tree and wasting everything in its path *Nostalga*
Lord JayVizIon
haha clefo, you know what i mean. don't forget placing your dragoons behind trees too.
Paragon_Leon
i'd like to see terrain that you can shoot to pieces. rocks that spray in all directions if they get blasted by AT-AT's. Tree's that burn if an explosion is nearby. you know, the usual action-enhancing stuff...
Guest Khabarakh
Ya the trees catching on fire when theres an explosion nearby ect. would be awesome!!! Being able to hide your units would make it so that you had to use more tactics rather than just trying to build a huge army as fast as you can so that u can destroy the enemy before he gets a big army together!! :D :obi:
Guest Tie Guy
Yeah, and how bout blowing dpressions in the ground that you could go down into them. Or like catching not just trees on fire, but whole forests. Treee would light each other, and the hidden unitas inside of tehm would be damaged or destroyed, that would be a nice counter to the hidden units, eh? Lord JayVizIon
i guess you guys are understanding me and each other on the terrain issues. i'm all for strategy (after all, isn't this game an rts?). how we can email this suggestion to lucasarts???
Lord JayVizIon
you know what, another aspect is to have towers, bunkers, etc. that units can go into. for example, tie told me of the gungan towers. if you destroy those, you could kill the unit. is that the case with AoE? i don't remember b/c i never had units killed when garrisoned (i'm not great though, trust me)... Guest Tie Guy
i don't know, but it would be neat. BTW, i think they are past teh stage of adding effects like that, but you never know.....
Lord JayVizIon
hmm, well from the looks of the units, it seems as if gungans would camouflage well. i don't know about others. we'll see....i could ask blue again and report back to you guys... Paragon_Leon
don't e-mail the suggestion, just post a thread stating: 'Please. Lucasarts, take note !' or something. I hope they'll have cliffs / mountains that you can really dig in behind. that'll bring some very nice battles..
