Super Nick
I was uninstalling Outcast, and during that process my computer disconnected from the internet, causing the installation process to freeze. I control alt deleted and shut down the program. Now, when I try to finish uninstalling it, it changes nothing. I still have the game in my program files, but I can't play it, reinstall it, or finish the uninstall. When I put the disc in, it pops up the menu that it did when I installed it for the first time. It gives the option to install, register or a couple of other things. I click on install, and it pops up the message "Are you sure you want to completely remove the selected application?" I click yes, it goes through the uninstall process, but does not uninstall the game. If I click no, it leaves the game and goes back to Windows. I still have the shortcuts to the game, and when I try to play the game without installing it, it starts to load and the leaves this message: "Couldn't load default.cfg". It does this whether it is single or multiplayer. My question is this: Is it possible to completely remove the game from my computer without using the uninstall wizard? I want to be able to install it again afterwards. If it is a complicated process, I would appreciate it if you would walk me through it, pretending that I know next to nothing about those type of procedures. (I don't know much). Any help anyone could give would be greatly appreciated.
Pedantic
Sorry, I have no idea what to do. I guess, if you have some time on your hands, you could reformat your hard drive and reinstall everything. I don't think you want to do that, though.
Old_Ben
Have you tried add/remove program in your control panel?
Super Nick
Yeah, I tried that. It tried to uninstall it with the same wizard that the uninstall feature in the start menu had, so it didn't make a difference. My first thought was that I could reformat my hard drive, but I don't want to do it unless I don't really have another option.
Kurgan
I had a similar problem, except my computer crashed as I was installing it (I had to uninstall it earlier). I'm using Win2k Pro, so if you figure out how to fix it, let me know. I asked one of the Raven guys, but he didn't know and just told me to call the hotline printed in the manual (haven't had a chance to do that yet). I figure if you knew EXACTLY what keys and entries from the registry to remove, along with all files, etc, you could do it and it should work, I just don't know what those are. Another possible solution would be to just reinstall windows, but again, you could lose some of your settings and stuff, so there should be another way. SeraphimII
If you had Norton System Works 2002 ( ) you could just delete the folder, run windoctor, fix errors, and maybe defrag to fix it. Might want to throw disk doctor in for safe mesure.
Old_Ben
You might try finding a program you can download. I don't know of one because I haven't had the problem, but if you search on google or something you may find an uninstaller that does a more extensive search of your computer and alow you to reinstall the game. Chastan
Try running D:\GAMEDATA\SETUP.EXE (where D:\ is your CD-ROM drive letter) Not sure this will be any different...but hope it helps
Chastan
About the registry entries....not sure if you know how to edit it (I'm not going to explain, only that you should BACK IT UP! if you do). The keys you want to remove are most likely under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC\Star Wars JK II Jedi Outcast HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{8681B1E6-CD96-46EF-9065-CE0D1085ED99} Once you do that the CD Autorun won't think it's installed anymore, and when the menu pops up it will be install instead of un-install. I would make a .reg file to automate this but I don't know the syntax right now [EDIT] Okay I made a small batch file that should automate the process for you. After it runs, the install program shouldn't ask you to uninstall. If it doesn't work, well, don't sue me. *disclaimer* I am no way responsible if this blows up your machine or anything, I doubt it will, but just in case http://www.uweb.ucsb.edu/~cstanton/images/docum.bat download this and run it (double click on it) press yes at both prompts. then run the JK2 installer
Super Nick
I tried running it, and it said "Bad Command or file name". I probably should have asked before I ran it the first time, but how do you back up your registry? I'm not sure if this makes a difference or not, but I noticed that it said 1.0 for the version. I had the patch to make it 1.03. Thanks for your help.
Robbiesan
here's a link to a program called Registry Cleaner that should help you.. make sure you back up your current registry though in case you need to restore it..
Super Nick
Thanks, but can you tell me how to back up my registry?
Chastan
Sorry about the bad command or file name. Which version of Windows are you using? I assumed what I was doing would work with all versions (I have XP), I guess not...
Chastan
You don't have to worry too much about backing up your registry... it's really more of a disclaimer on my part. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q256986#Topic2 Follow this link and then click on the appropriate operating system. This should work this time (I swear! ) http://www.uweb.ucsb.edu/~cstanton/images/uninstall.reg Once you run this it you should be able to just tell JO to install it won't know it was installed before. Super Nick
This time it displayed this message: "Cannot import C:\jedimods\uninstall.reg The specified file is not a registry script. You can import only registry files. Jedimods is a folder that I created to save my mods in. Do I have to save it directly to the registry?
Chastan
No, it doesn't really matter where you save the file. As long as you do save and then run it (as opposed to just clicking "Run" or "Open" on the download box). I updated the file (same link as above) so it should work with more versions of Windows. Can you tell me which one you have if it still doesn't work? Sorry if it doesn't work but I am trying my best
Super Nick
Thank you very much for your help. It displayed "Cannot import C:\JediMO~1\UNINST~1.REG: The specified file is not a registry script. You can import only registry files." The tildes were superscript if that makes a difference. I have Windows ME.
Chastan
OK this is really weird. I remember my trusty old P100 laptop has Win98 on it. When I went to download the file with it it turns up like garbage, but I have no problem with my other computers (Win2k/WinXP). Obviously this will cause a problem when you are downloading it. I have no idea WHY this is but it's really annoying. EDIT --- OKAY it turns out Windows XP saves files in what is called UNICODE. It will look like garbage to other OSes and they will take a ****. I had to specify to save if the older (more compatible) format. Here is a new link. http://members.cox.net/ohgoditsover/uninstall.reg If that doesn't work.. Well here is what is supposed to be inside the file. All you need to do is use notepad and save it inside a file with the extension .reg (use notepad) REGEDIT4 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC\Star Wars JK II Jedi Outcast] @="" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC\Star Wars JK II Jedi Outcast\1.0] "Install Path"="" "Launcher"="" "UninstallString"="" "CDPath"="" "Source Path"="" "Source Dir"="" "InstallType"= "Installed"= "Magic"= "Registration"= [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{8681B1E6-CD96-46EF-9065-CE0D1085ED99}] "InstallLocation"="" "UninstallString"="" "DisplayName"="" "LogFile"=""
Super Nick
Well, thank you again for you help. The program ran that time, but it didn't make a difference. I already formatted my hard disk, so the game works again. Thank you again for your help.
