Slunker
How do you make use of area portals in this map to increase fps? /Do/ you make use of area portals? -Slunker
Darth Link
now that would really suck being the level as it is now(really good)but it wasnt too fps friendly.sorta like playing ns_streets on high quality with only a geforce2.uggggg that scares me just thinkin about it... Slunker
I'm just saying that the outside seems like a fairly large open area, which can be difficult to control with area portals... -Slunker
patchx
being a cityscape the author would probably have lots of corners, t intersections and stuff that make use of hint brushes to minimalise the amount of level drawn at any one time by the engine
Emon
Hint brushes are the single most impracticle thing in the entire Q3:TA engine. They are only useful if your level consists of a very long linear hallway that has sharp 90 degree turns in it, and has tons of detail on the wall. Even then, it won't help much. All it does is split up the leaf nodes. All it does is add a tiny bit of extra speed when looking around the corner. Not too useful.
patchx
i dont really understand what ur point is hint brushes can stop the engine drawing stuff that the player cant see yet such as around corners which is useful in areas that dont use doors such as cityscapes a tiny bit of extra speed? it can make the difference of a level being playable or not
Sine Nomen
Terraced landing platforms. Yeah, you can go in (most of) the buildings. BTW, don't worry about the FPS. They're ~50-60 throughout, on a 1.2ghz Athlon, GF2MX, and 384 DDR. I can't cater to people with really low-end machines if I want to maintain the level of detail I've got going now, but I'm doing everything I can to make it run as smoothly as possible. It's not a problem at this point. If you want something to compare it to, I think the performance is more or less the same as in ns_streets.
