Incomplete installation problem...strange dll issue

I just formatted my computer the other day and now I'm running Windows 2000 Pro. I'm planning on installing the game on my D:\ instead of C:\ like I always do. So I run the JKII install program and choose custom setup and begin the install. The install gets up to 99% and then the install program closes itself down and then my computer sits and thinks for a few minutes and then I get a nice error that says:

"Unable to locate dll

The dynamic link library MSVFW32.dll could not be found

in the specified path D:\g."

Then I can't even play the game. So I tried doing the standard installation (which puts it on c:\) and the install worked and I could run the game. Problem is that I don't want the game on C:\ because of space issues.

Anybody have any ideas?

Note - I was running Windows 98 before 2000 and I never once had this problem. I know this game is 2000 compatible so I'm a little confused.

:D Its very easy... your MSVFW32.dll has been corrupt or lost... solution get someone elses... I have it and If you pm your email adress Ill send it to you :D all you have to do after you get it uninstall the game put the dll file into your C:\windows\system folder... and install the game... Or if you want you can grab your 98 disk and look for the dll file on that cd... Im sure its not on 2000 since 2000 was made similer to windows nt not 95 or 98... :D Its a simple problem...

Well, like I said, I'm running 2000. I suppose it could be a corrupt file, but why would the game work if I installed it on my C:\ but not if I installed it on any other drive? Seems like if it was corrupt it wouldn't let me play it on any drive I installed it to. Any other thoughts?

Lets think of this problem in an abstract way... C is defalt... but you dont want the defalt that dll might contain a line in it that says its not using defalt settings... I have a feeling if you replace the dll file it will fix the problem...

You may be right. Last night I merged what was my D:\ with my existing C:\ so I could install all games on C:\. Then I made a folder called C:\Games\. Ran the JKII custom installation and chose my games folder and the install screwed up again with the same error, but then I installed it again in the default location in the Program Files folder and it worked. Maybe I do need a different copy of the file.
