Is there a simple way to make stairs?

It takes but a few minutes to make stairs. Just don't make them too high so Kyle can walk up them. Also, make sure to make a ramp right over the top of the stairs ( touching) incase you don't want a bouncy screen. Texture this ramp with CLIP in the system directory. If you ahve alot of stairs, just make one part...then clone it, and you'll get done faster....

It takes but 5 minutes to do this.... its not hard

Oh how UnrealEd is just so much better. I wish they would have

that kind of editor instead of this peice of sh*t one.

And don't go telling me how radiant is professional. There is

nothing professional about an undo button that doesn't even

work. And UnrealEd actually allowed you to actual see an entire

area and the lighting of a map you're working on *GASP*! Unlike

this one which let's you hardly see sh*t in the 3d view. You can't

see the lighting either in it.

I personally hate this map editor as far to the extent at which

I am able to hate it. I mean you can't subtract from a cylinder for

crying out loud. Ah, there's another issue everyone bitches

about, subtract. You people seem to hate it for some reason. I

used it and it worked just fine.

This editor is a very big disappointment. I'm glad mapping is not

the department I work in around here. :p

1. My undo buttons work. (GTK)

2. I've mapped for UT before and in Radiant you can set up your views the same way. It's under the preferences.

3. I agree about the lighting. I wish it did do that.

4. It really depends on how you use csg subtract. If you use it on a normal four sided square it's fine, but anything with more sides it goes nuts and creates more brushes than it should.

5. With UT stairs, what you get is what you see. With stairs made in Radiant, you get the joy of customizing them to your specs and how you want them to look. That's the beauty of making stairs in Radiant. The customization. You could do the same in UnrealED but you'd have to make it the same way as you would in Radiant.

and although i agree about JK2Radiant in terms of useability and functionality. I do feel GTK Radiant is by far a much more superior editor than UnrealED.

to darth_micke:

The real best way is to sit with it and clone each brush. take the time to add the little details like supports for the stairs (unless you want them to look like they're just floating there).

Be as detailed as possible! Add railings or something to add effect.

I personally like JK2radient. No use getting mad because there's no auto creat or stuff like that. It takes but a minute to make them.

anyways, copy and past seems to be the only way to make stairs, just copy like 3, and select them and copy those, so you paste more than 1 at a time. If you wanted stairs that spiral around, Bubba has a good tutorial on that. Or just make a step, duplicate it, and rotate it 15 digrees twice. Then copy the 1/4 spiral stairs a couple times.

UnrealEd, Serious Editor, JED, they all knock the socks off of any Radiant editor. For god sakes, Radiant can't even rotate a model, yet the engine supports it. It also cannot rotate with decimals, it just rounds it off. Oh, and make a brush, keep rotating on like the Z axis, eventually the brush will get deformed. Not with JED or many other great editors. These are just some of the really small problems that Radiant has.

you should realign rotated brushes to the 8 point grid anyways, whether it gets deformed or not.

I just see the deformation effect encouraging better quality control in map making. ;)

Realigning brushes can save you a lot of headaches down the road.

If you hate Radiant oh so much, why don't you stop complaining, stop making maps, and leave this forum forever?

It would be so much nicer for the rest of us. ;)

And as long as you only free rotate after you are done editing a group of brushes, it won't matter. You can free rotate anything and just leave it there. The only way to cause distortion is if you free rotate over 360 degrees, which you shouldn't need to do anyway if you at all planned out what you were going to be making in the first place.

It all comes down to the fact that if you properly plan out your map, you won't have any problems unless you make problems for yourself.
