The best of the Star Wars Saga (Empire and Jedi) had screenplays written by Lawrence Kasdan. These movies were also the ones that were NOT directed by George Lucas. The acting was believable, the camera angles were dramatic, and the lighting was provocative. The worst of the Saga (Hope, Menace, and Clones) were all Lucas crafted. These offenders have the weakest lighting, the sloppiest camera angles, and the worst acting. From the standpoint of a viewer, it seems to me that Lucas needs help when it comes to crafting a good movie. Maybe he's too connected with his story to objectively tell it in a cinemagraphic way. This is not to say that George is insane. He's no less sane than the rest of the multimillionaires out there. I shudder to think that Speilberg was actually considered to direct the next movie. All of Speilberg's best work was done in the 70s ... with the possible exeption of Schindler's List. (I have yet to see Minority Report.) I think that speilberg is the wrong choice to direct ... but SOMEONE other than Lucas needs to do so. I really hope that George allows himself some help with his last Star Wars screenplay. And I really, really hope that he doesn't direct it, himself. He should only be the conceptual artist, and leave the rest of the work to people who know what they are doing. Someone needs to tell him "NO" once in a while. Left to his own devices, he slaughters his own body of work. I'm not sure why the novels were mentioned, but since they were, Natty's appraisal leaves a lot to be desired. They were nearly word for word from the screenplay. They left NO key elements out. In fact they actually added depth to the story. (and let's face it, all of the movies lack depth) The novels added elements that were not easily translatable in the movies. The true nature of the DARK SIDE was revealed -- How seductive it was, and how Luke had actually been a member of the dark side his entire career. The novel Return of the Jedi was brilliant (as far as trash-novels go) in enhancing the screenplay without scrificing one element of the original story. By the way, Lucas' original intention was nine movies (3 prequels and 3 sequels to accompany the middle 3). He finally settled on six. This is fine by me, because the very best aspect of his movies--the one constant breath of life to his dead scenes, John Williams wouldn't be around to score the music for those last three. **edit** This is most interesting ... how did my reply end up prior to it's predecessors? SamNMax
Not so sane. I'm so mad at him! He didn't have to make Ep. 1,2, and 3. If you wanted to know what happend read the books.
Natty At School
Some people are too lazy to read books. Also those books are the biggest load of crap. You know what I found? An old Return of the Jedi book in my house and it was nothing like the fricking movie, key points were left out of the book that were in the movie. Although it did have some funky pictures, and the same with the Empire Strikes Back book I found, same thing again key points were missing from the book that were in the movie. StarWars must be told from George Lucas's point of view, anyone else who either writes a book based on the StarWars movies needs a swift kick in the backside, just like those who want to take over and direct StarWars movies (not looking at anyone in particular Mr Speilburg who directed the most boring movie ever in ET) Besides everyone knew what happened, and he always said he wanted to start with the first 3episodes, but at the time he felt it didn't have enough action, and from memory I think FOX agreed with him? But if you don't wanna see the movies then don't and stop complaining, there are plenty of StarWars fans out there who are quite happy to go and see the prequals, you're in the minority anyway, I'd say about 99.9% of StarWars fans are happy he made/is making the prequals, besides it was always intended to be a 6part movie George Lucas is sheer brilliant, and I want to have his love child... well no not really, I won't go that far, but he is brilliant
