Daar-Siidomus
I would really like to find someone who can help me with this. Ever since I got my new comp (1.5pent, geforce2, 256ram, winXP, via chipset, 300 psu (people say its the psu)) I've had a problem with the quake 3 engine. First it was quake3, then mohaa demo, then jkii, then mohaa. I play from anywhere to 1 minute, up to like 30, and then it just freezes. I can control+alt+delete, and end task it. It just locks up. This only hapens with games on the quake 3 engine. didn't happen with UT, war3, worms, sims, tribes, ghost recon etc. I don't get it. It really sucks, and is EXTREMELY annoying as you can image. First we though it was an overheating problem, so we bought another fan, and now we just think my video card is f*cked. Or it could be winXP. Yes I have the latest drivers for my vidcard, and my best friend got his comp from the same place, and its almost the same cept for its a 1.4 and it has win98... and he doesn't have the same problems. Can anyone help? Now I also got hte via chipset latency patch, and that didn't fix things at all. I changed some settings on openGL, and that seemed to fix the problem in mohaa, yet it still ocassionally freezes. Oh and it freezes WAY MORE in single play rather than multiplay. I have a 52x cd rom. What else? Oh It doesn't freeze much in mohaa, or wolfenstien, but freezes TONS in jkii. Especially the singleplay, I can't play for more than 2 minutes without it freezing and it sucks cuz i want to finish badly. So please if you can help me that would be AWESOME! Sith Maximus
What type of Geforce card are you running and at what settings do you have jk2 set to? This is a VERY intensive game, exp the sp potion, and requires a very powerful videocard to run in high resolutions. I would try the following and them post back your card specs if it does not work. Uninstall the game. Run defrag on your hard drive. Now download Adaware from cnet and get all of the spyware off of your computer (free program). Now reinstall the game, make sure that your antivirus software is off. Now start the game and leave it at the default settings and go and play for a while. If it does not lock up the grad increase your settings. If you have a Geforce 2 MX card then you will not be able to run over 800x600 without issues. Make sure that you turn off fsaa in your driver tab. Hope this helps, if not then repost back.
