Hi guys,

I've tried to do a search but it is disabled :( ..

I really need some help please

Jedi knight is running like crap after the first level in which i'm getting 50-60+fps

my system specs are:

Athlon xp 1800+( not overclocked)

Geforce 3 Ti 200

Abit KT7A Raid

768mb RAM

20 Gig Hdd

Sound blaster pci 512

Windows xp pro

All latest drivers

i know you probably get asked this question a lot, but having read some of the posts a lot of people with specs lower than mine seem to be getting better performance. I've tried all kinds of things to get this beggar to run properly but to no avail. ive turned most of the options down. But for gods sake whilst not a brilliant PC other games like MOHAA run with all details up

If anyone has had probs similar or can even help, i will be most grateful

Thank you very much in advance

Windows xp pro is a system hog. Goto tweakxp and look for the gamers configuration settings for winxp. This will let you know what extra stuff you can turn off to get your system to speed up. Also the default settings for xp in open gl is vsync always on. Make sure that vsync is to the always off position in the drivers tab. Also turn off fsaa. Its a total hog in this game. Also make sure you have the latest drivers for, video, sound and chipset. Xp is VERY picky about uncertified drivers. Also install a "nocd" patch for your game. This sould help reduce your system stress as well. If all else fails then overclock your videocard. But I do have some bad news for you. The Abit board that you have is slow in open gl based applications. A friend of mine had one and got rid of it because it just hung him up too much. I have the KR7A-RAID board and its great. Thats just something to think about.

Thanks for your reply m8!,

I think i will be getting a new board soon :(

oh well such is life damn abit..

well i said i would put something in the bin and its gonna be that board..

thanx again

why for interest sake is this particular board slow in open GL?

also windows xp has plenty of resources i have like 656mb RAM free

and the pc is tweaked like hell and runs like S**t off a shovel!!

That board was never made for speed.....just as a low cost entry by Abit. It works great in Autocad and the like but as far as the Quake engine goes it just plain sucks. I think if they had made that board with a better chipset it would have run better.

If I were to get a newer board right now I would get the KR7A-RAID like I have for 266a chipset or a Soyo Dragon Platinum for the newer 333 chipset. The Soys is faster than crap....two buds of mine have em and they ROCK!

i just stubled into this post and came to realize, its funny. My mainboard cost me $45. It has to be the most economic mainboard ever. its the ECS K7SEM, i mean it has a 4x agp port, it has onboard sound, 2 pci slots (come on 2?) and its not really made for performance. its a pretty new board though so it supports the Athlon Xp line. Its running SDRAM at pc133.

System:

Athlon XP 1800+

384mb ram pc133

Radeon 7500 DDR 64mb (gf4 ti 4200 commin in 5 days)

Sis onboard sound

ECS K7SEM mainbaord

20 gig WD 7200rpm HD

Nothing is overclocked and i hit 5213 in 3dmark2001SE, this is in 1024x768x32.

I would like to recommend ECS's high performance line. There not the talk of the town, and generally overlooked but the overclock perfectly, AND they are stable, not alot of $$ either. Hope you choose and ECS

ECS makes an ok mainboard, but nothing like a high performance Soyo or ABIT. I run 8477 in the 3dmark myself with my GF3 TI200, I had a buds TI4600 in it one day just for kicks and hit 10987 with that. The sdram on the ecs is very limiting, I would love to see the scores on that system after you drop in the TI4200.

I was a little worried about that too. But my buddy down the street had like 5 rigs he plays around with and he pretty much knows what hes talking about and told me to expect 8800-9350. Im hoping to just pull off 9000, but if i did. going from 5000 to 9000 for $130, is a great deal. :D

I do agree with you though ECS cant compete with those companies, but what i was saying was you get alot of performance for the $$ you pay on the ECS board. Just giving an alternative.

what i meant was, i payed $130 for geforce4 Ti 4200. And i am currently hitting 5012 on 3dmark2001SE (with the system specs above) in 1024x768x32 defaults. i was told i was only lose 5%-10% performance drop, then if i was using a DDR ram, depending on what speed its clocked. My system (for having sdram pc133) still runs with the big boys with a 5012 score on a radeon 7500 with athlonxp 1800+. So i am expecting 9000 to be my new 3dmark score with the ti 4200.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well i got it sorted.

Iam now getting a respectable 85fps now!!!!!

Sith Maximus, no disrespect intended here, but you sayin that the KT7A RAID is no good at open GL based games, and that it was an entry level board is just plain old bullS**t

But thank you very much for your help :)

ABIT KT7A RAID v1.0-1.2 /a9 Bios

AMD Athlon XP 1800+ (No OC)

512MB PC 133 RAM

Geforce3 Ti 200 @ 220/515

Creative Sound blaster Live!

20 Gig HDD

300w psu

plus other crap ...
