Question to Star Wars: EU readers

Well, I just finished the Jedi Academy trilogy in the Star Wars Expanded Universe. I thought it was pretty damn good. But there's one problem, I've been searching and searching, I can't find the books that are mentioned in the book and the ones directly after Jedi Academy Trilogy.

I liked the entire Trilogy, I was wondering what happened to all the characters and what happened next and such. So here's my question.

What's the order of the expanded universe of books (doesn't have to be everyone of them I know they go by series)?

I know the one with Grand Admiral Thrawn, but I can't find the rest. Like where Luke becomes a Dark Jedi, and fights his clone, ect. Also, I found some stuff about books directly after the Champions of the Force, telling what happens to the first twelve Jedi Knights, like Kyp Durron, Streen, ect.

Anyway, I was looking to buy books before the Jedi Academy Trilogy and directly after, if anyone knows which ones they are. I hate skipping ahead, most of the books I found where like ten or more years AFTER Champions of the Force, so.. didn't want to get into that yet.

If anyone knows, I'd really appreciate the info. :)

weill i can post the chronology of NOVELS, but some of the story takes place in between in comics, i found that it doesnt really matter if u skip the comics because the books give the bare details. dont skip too many books though or expect to have to catch up a bit. welcome to the world of the EU.

Ah, thanks. What about the series where Luke becomes the Emperor's apprentice? I heard something on the forums a few weeks back about someone naming the series where Luke fell to the dark side, but I don't remember the name.

I think it was Dark.. something. But hell, in the EU looking for Dark something is like looking for a needle in a hay stack.

Just a word of warning: don't read anything by Barbara Hambly... in fact... just stop where you are, the EU just goes steeply downhill after the Jedi Academy trilogy. I do recommend most of the comics, though (except for Union). Really, if an SW book is worth reading, they'll make a comic of it: did it with Zahn's books, did it with Shadows of the Empire and they did it with Splinter of the Mind's Eye... those are the five best SW books, they're made better in the comics so go find those ;)

Those are the ones I like too. I also really liked Tales From the Bounty Hunters as well! I have alot of books I have not read yet. I buy them 2 or 3 at a time on paperback and put them away for when I need something to read. I don't have any of the Jedi Academy books or Rouge Squadron, or new Jedi Order. The Zahn books were the best of the whole lot.

and stay away from the new jedi order, dont make the mistake of buying one of those books like i did.

I really want those. I was going to read "Vector Prime" but since R.A. Salvatore's "Attack of the Clones" book was so lame, now I just want to stay away from anything he writes.

the following are the books that i found enjoyable enough to reread several times a year (chronological order):

shadows of the empire

x-wing 1-9 (rogue squadron, wedges gamble, krytos trap, bacta war, wraith squadron, iron fist, solo command, the others take place later on in the chronology so ill list them then)

thrawn trilogy (heir to the empire, darke force rising, the last command)

x-wing isards revenge

i jedi

jedi academy trilogy (i jedi takes place during these and before and after, jedi search, dark apprentice, champions of the force)

darksaber

x-wing starfighters of adumar

hand of thrawn duology (specter of the past, visions of the future)

New jedi order has some great stuff but some is boring. i recommend that you read it all so that you know whats goin on but the ones worth rereading are as follows: dark tide I and II. balance point, star by star, dark journey, behind enemy lines I and II. and traitor. as for destinys way i have not yet read the book but am looking forward to it.

there you have it, my view on the wonderful world of the EU. its not for everybody but alot of people like myself love these stories. dont be discouraged becaue you read one crappy book. get one on this list and judge then. i couldnt stand the blackfleet crisis because it was so boring but the newer stuff is amazing. i wont tell you who but several of the main characters from the movies and the later stories have been killed, which i think is good. its annoying to read stories and know that certain ppl are immune to all danger.

just another note, anything by michael a stackpole or timothy zahn is pure gold.

Both Dark Empire and its sequels (Empire's End was a two part comic series that wrapped up the Dark Empire series--the art on that one is pretty bad) were written to be comics and were never novels.

Oh yeah... I, Jedi was an awesome book... first appearance of an uber-Jedi in the EU... but then, it did have its massive problems, such as parts of it taking place actually within the Jedi Academy Trillogy... continuity errors like Luke saying that they spent the night on Yavin IV before the Death Star even came in-system... and then there's the whole "Corellian Jedi can't use telekenisis".

Stay away from Zahn's new books... nothing he's done in SW can compair to the Thrawn Trilogy... I got my hopes way up when I heard about the Hand of Thrawn Duo, and all of my hopes were dashed! DASHED, I TELL YOU! Zahn cannot write Star Wars in this post-Prequel era. And avoid the Union comic at all cost; Zahn and Stackpole collaborated on it, but it is the biggest, smelliest pile of poodoo since Planet of Twilight.

The best EU stuff, like I said, is in the comics... all of the prequel comics I've read are great... I also highly recommend the Tales of the Jedi comic series (Golden Age of the Sith, The Freedon Nadd Uprising, Dark Lords of the Sith, The Sith War & Redemption). And you should deffinately pick up the comic adaptations of Heir to the Empire, The Last Command (Dark Force Rising was boring as 'ell and had terrible art), Shadows of the Empire (and maybe SotE:Evo, the Shadows sequel by Steve Perry) and Splinter of the Mind's Eye (great art, great story... Darth Vader really in action! Not like the SotE Vader where he was there... but never did anything... he's actually fighting here and killing underlings and being all around evil! It's a beautiful sight to see!).

thats probly because he didnt write them in the post-prequil era, he wrote them quite a while ago.

Alright... I admit I was wrong as to their release dates... Specter came out in 97 and Visions in 98... not exactly quite a while before Episode I, but still before... Doesn't change my opinion that the Thrawn Duology sucks.
