JKII running slower on my new GF 4 Ti4200!

I just bought a new GF4 Ti4200 video card. I figured my games would run much smoother and faster not to mention look better then my old S3 Savage 2000 card. However, to my dismay, JK2 runs slower then it did on my Savage 2000! ALOT SLOWER! If I turn everything down to its max low the game runs at no more then 30 fps unless staring at the sky or at a wall. It runs terribly slow on my GF4 when it should be running alot smoother!

I tried going to activision for help but that did nothing but tell me to call their Europe location! I have the latest Detonator Drivers as well. Here is my system specs:

AMD Athlon 1.1Ghz

Windows 98SE

128MB RAM

60GB HD (25GB free)

GeForce 4 Ti 4200 64mb

It makes no sense to me why JK2 would run worse on a better video card!

Please HELP! Any suggestions at all appreciated.

This should be a tech question...but. Ok first of all make sure that you have the latest drivers from nvidia...theyare now in the 30 range so go and check the site. Second of all make sure that your drivers are set up right. Make sure that in the tab for fsaa you set it to "no fsaa/off". Fsaa will kill your fps. Third make sure that you have the latest chipset drivers for your motherboard and that all previous video drivers have been properly removed from your system. If it were me I would do a clean install of windows with that much of a change in video cards. And finally make sure that vsync is set to always off in the drivers and in the game setup panel. That will limit your fps to about 30. Also do not expect massive fps out of your system. You are very low on system ram and without it you may find a slight decrease in your overall speed. Also if your hd if only a 5400rpm model this will slow you down even further. Remember all sites that review these cards use very modified computers and operating systems in order to obtain the highest fps. I run a TI200 and get almost 9000 in 3dmark 2001, but my computer is very modified. Try to get yourself around 70fps and you will be fine. Oh and get some more ram asap, min of 256 total but 512 is better.

I didn't see there was more to the forums section :p

Anyway, I do have the latest det drivers, they are installed properly, I do have a 7200RPM hd, I know my ram is rather low, but it worked fine before there's no reason it should be any worse now. Vsync is off, FSAA is off. I do not understand the problem! My guess is... I'll try reinstalling the game, if that doesn't work I'll just give windows the big reinstall. IF THAT DOESN'T WORK, I'll think I'll explode in frustration.

I would reinstall the game also you may want to run a dedicated opengl bench like VulpineGl. You can get it from http://www.guru3d.com in the downloads section. This tests your open gl subsystems and gives you an overall fps at the end. It is far better than 3dmark for an overall system test. 98 is known to be fussy about new videocards. My VulpineGl mark is 143fps on medium settings with all gf3 features enabled. This is my specs so you have a comparison...I would look for about 90 to 110fps on your system. You have a slower overall system but a much faster card than I have.

(2) 40GIG ATA133 Maxtor hd in Raid-0 (4mb cache drives)

Asus Geforce 3 TI200 (220/500)

Entermax Power supply.

Just a last thought......how is your power supply? AMD chips plus a geforce card need massive amounts of power. I use a 430watt myself and AMD says you need at least a 300watt, but most people use a GOOD 350watt. Anyway hope it helps. Good Luck.

hey dude i'm not sure if they said this already in those long replys above but honestly no offense but that card is worthless without it being 128mb. I got my GF4 Ti4400 64mb card and it sucked hard balls. That card shouldnt even be sold if its a 64mb. I had to get my money back and get the 128mb card. Sorry and good luck.
