ThrasherX9
I just bought a new GF4 Ti4200 video card. I figured my games would run much smoother and faster not to mention look better then my old S3 Savage 2000 card. However, to my dismay, JK2 runs slower then it did on my Savage 2000! ALOT SLOWER! If I turn everything down to its max low the game runs at no more then 30 fps unless staring at the sky or at a wall. It runs terribly slow on my GF4 when it should be running alot smoother! I tried going to activision for help but that did nothing but tell me to call their Europe location! I have the latest Detonator Drivers as well. Here is my system specs: AMD Athlon 1.1Ghz Windows 98SE 128MB RAM 60GB HD (25GB free) GeForce 4 Ti 4200 64mb It makes no sense to me why JK2 would run worse on a better video card! Please HELP! Any suggestions at all appreciated.
Cobalt60
what kind of motherboard do you have (manufacturer & chipset)? do you have the latest AGP miniport drivers for your motherboard installed? (example : VIA 4-in1 ; or SiS miniport driver ; or whatevr you need for your board?) try re-installing this driver also what is your AGP aperture set to? the default AGP aperture is usually 64megs. this is fine for 32meg cards (or less) with your new card , you will want to set AGP aperture anywhere from 128-256megs also while you are in the BIOS: make sure "video BIOS caching" is diabled make sure "Video BIOS shadow" is disabled make sure "fast writes" is enabled (sometimes called "fast read/write turn around") make sure "Assign IRQ to AGP" is enabled also : go to the windows display settings applet. click the "advanced" button click "GF4-T14200" tab click the "additional properties" button under the antialiasing tab: set 3D antialiasing to MANUAL .. and then OFF under OpenGL settings : set vertical synch to "ALWAYS OFF" under the Direct3D tab : set mipmap detail to "BEST PERFORMANCE"
ThrasherX9
Thanks for Help, I'll try these stuff out and see if it helps. [edit]: Well, I tried everything you said and did it. Well, unfortunitly it didn't help at all. *sigh* I don't get it... Next, I guess I'll try reinstalling it.
ThrasherX9
Well, Reinstalling didn't work. I'm at a loss. Why is it running worse!?
Captain Archer
Are you sure that you completely removed ALL of the old drivers and utilities for your old video card. I can see no reason why your GeForce 4 Ti 4200 would run so slow. I have: Pentium 3 866 mhz 512 MB PC 133 RAM Voodoo 3 2000 Windows XP Pro And the JKII runs at an average of 30 fps while going up to 90 fps while I am in small rooms or looking at a wall. Are you sure that you downloaded the latest drivers.
Robbiesan
yeah I agree with Captain Archer.. perhaps the card itself is the problem.. you should see a huge increase in performance.. if you care to, run DXdiag, save the results and post them here.. there are most likely driver issues but if not it really could be a crap board.. start > run > dxdiag > save to text file > open, copy all, paste here
icefox98
I have a GF4 Ti4600 and I run every one of my games on the higest possible setting, including the highest resolution and I get great frame rate. GF4 ti4600 is amazing. Obviously, something is wrong with your computer, etc. You may want to try installing the card again (Removing the card from the slot, and slapping it back in. Your computer may be reading your old card, but thinking that it has a GF4 in it, but can only detect your old one, which could lead to preformance problems, etc. call tech support...they will help ya. Captain Archer
Robbiesan, if the video card was fried most likely it would not work at all instead of just working badly. Windows would probably not even detect it. I am pretty sure that what ThrasherX9 needs to do is either find the right drivers or change some of the driver/bois settings. I do agree with you on one thing though, that ThrasherX9 should post his DXdiag report.

It always worked for me. One thing though, I don't want to get into a cpu/benchmark debate, but when I was running a AMD XP cpu/DDR (with a ti 4600) my frame rates were considerably lower than with my current P4/RDRAM system. The choppiness and overall performance greatly improved after the switch and the "bottleneck" effect I had gotten used to w/ the AMD was gone. I have seen MANY cards loose the 3D capabilities and still display windows with minimal (if any) problems. it happens. if all else fails, try replacing the card or have the store you bought it from test it in front of you. check the motherboard manufacturer website for driver updates or FAQ, your video card might be listed as having problems with said motherboard. Jedi-Duck
Yeah it'd have to be your computer cos i used to have a S3 savage 4 16mb 3d card which i got in 2000 (it worked ok with JK2) and i recently upgraded to a measly GeForce 2 MX-400 64mb card and it works ten times better. Your Gf4 Ti 4200 should make JK2 run infinitely better. Her are my specs: AMD Athlon 600MhZ 192mb SD RAM Asus K7 200 Mhz M/B Windoze 98 SE Maybe u're computer's just weird
ThrasherX9
Well, I'm 100% positive it's installed properly. I have no other problems with any other games. Games that didn't work before, now work great, or run even better. But, for some odd reason, JK2 runs much worse. I DO have the latest drivers, I've checked my bios settings, and the card is NOT fried. razorace
Have you tried reinstall the game? How does the Q3 engine run on your system?
ThrasherX9
I did reinstall the game (completely) and not any better. The Q3 Engine.... eh... well, MoHAA doesn't seem to run any different. Q3 its self runs fine and SoF II runs quite a bit better. But, with out a doubt, JK2 runs the worst.
Gooey
u went from a savage to a gf4 and q3 and moh:aa dont run any different?
ThrasherX9
Well, the S3 Savage 2000 was a 64mb card, but beside that point, Q3 does run signifigantly better, RTCW (wich I forgot to mention I also have) also runs signifigantly better. However, MoHAA runs what would seem about the same.
razorace
Weird, sounds like you're screwed. Talk to Lucasart's tech support.
Xabien
Dont know if somebody said it already but switch VSync to Always Off. That boosts you FPS through the roof
ThrasherX9
Yeah, I guess I am screwed. I tried contacting Activision but they just said some BS automated stuff, then told me to call some number in the UK when I live in the US. Thanks for the support Activision > (See if I buy any of their products again! Well, except for DOOM III, and... probably Quake 4, and...well, any other cool game hat they come out with)

razorace
Try Lucasart's tech support. I think it's better than Activision's.

ThrasherX9
I'm just going to probably reinstall windows. I don't feel like losing everything and having to reinstall and backup everything.
