Gonkish
(OT: EEE! I MADE A RHYME) So.. what I'm wondering is.. I've been trying to make a heightmap terrain for JO.. and while I have the alphamap all set and ready to go, and I have the heightmap made with Easygen.. I'm having trouble getting JO to use it... does anyone know if this is possible? It has to have support, I mean.. it IS the Q3:TA engine..
Takeoffyouhoser
oh sure, its possible.....I have a terrain loaded in radiant and everything....it jsut doesn't load for me as well..... I also know that Gensurf WILL load a terrain, but when I make a heightmap there and use my 9,000 x 6,000 coordinates, the bloody thing just is flat... Emon knows how to use Gensurf....but whenever I ask a question, i don't get a responce or he points me towards this tutorial... http://www.qeradiant.com/manual/Terrain_Manual/pages/table_of_contents.html ..so there is not alot of help there....... Its jsut one of those thing that have been pissing me off since the 4th of july this terrain... Maybe we jsut need to send an e-mail to Raven and HOPe they'll reply... UniKorn
Your heightmap file needs to be a .png if I remember it correctly. Haven't tried terrain in jk2 yet.
Takeoffyouhoser
Well, it syas that the heightmap hsould be a BMP file...not PNG...but maybe i'll give that a whirl and see p.s. .... TRY TERRAIN ...lol its lotsa fun
Emon
GenSurf lets you scale the height of your terrain, it's probably defaulting to be flat or something, or you selecting something wrong. EasyGen's automated shaderthingymajig would be REALLY cool...if it would work.
Takeoffyouhoser
now that Emon's here, lol, riddle me this... If i were to use a heightmap in Gensurf of oh say 64x64, how big can my terrain be??? The heightmaps confuse me using Gensurf... if my grid size need to be 9k x 6x , do i need a heightmap that big??
Emon
Erm...no...What are you so confused about?
Takeoffyouhoser
well....lots of stuff... I'm Polish... he he.. but in mapping terms, It says you can create a heightmap, but it has to be like 64x64, 128x128 ect.... Do bigger sizes make bigger terrain? Also, The extents in Gensurf..... is this where you make your terrain's size??? like my 9k x 6k landscape? also, -x and x, then -y and y ... is this a north ( y) , east (x), south (-y)and west (-x)... The extents confuse me... also, the last step in Gensurf....where the textures and shaders are, what do I use in the textures box and other box? I am using Hoth/Snow for my texture.... Takeoffyouhoser
Welp, It seems I figured out Gensurf!!! I have to play around with my heightmap to make my terrains sides look like snowy peaks, but it loaded in radiant and assume it will work in game as well. The extents were sorta as I figured, just like Geometry class.... Emon: Do I use hoth/Snow_01 for my texture setting and... system/caulk for the latter?? Emon
Yes. I've never tried the steep texture though, should be interesting.
