Kaimon
I've run into similar problems. It seems like my ping is constantly hovering around 300, no matter what server I'm on, and I must be dropping packets like crazy, since I get the "connection disrupted" message every few seconds. It's playable, but not very much fun. Here are some system specs: Dell 2 GHZ GeForce 4 4200 or somesuch 512 MB RAM and probably the most important number of these specs: I'm connected to the internet via a cable modem. (through a hub on a LAN). ATTBI, to be exact. I usually get decent pings on such games as Quake III, Unreal Tournament, and so on, but Jedi Outcast just gives me crap, to put it lightly. Are there any console commands I can use to alleviate the problems, or perhaps does anyone here have any idea as how to find out what's going on wrong? Thanks in advance. Kaimon
I seem to have figured out just what the problem is- late night when no one else was on the LAN I found the lag to have disappeared. Seems like other people using the connection will lag me up, for some reason. Are tehre any ways to solve this problem short of yanking their cables out of the hub or playing at 3 of the clock in the morning? Again, help WILL be appreciated if anyone out there is willing to provide it.

Sith Maximus
First off change your resolution down to 800x600. Your pushing your geforce really hard at those levels. Second 128mb of ram is a little low for the newer games. A min of 512 should be in any systems that you play games on today. JK2 is a much "beefier" engine than the original Quake3 version and takes alot more system rescources to make it run smooth. Also your network is a large part of your problem. Sort your browser and join a server at under 100. This should help to get a game ping of no more than 150 to 200. Dsl is nice but its got terrible lag. I had cable then went to dsl when I moved to simplify my bills but could not get off the dsl fast enough. Dsl was 150/128 cable is 2000/384. That really helps your pings out. Check out this thread and look for the scripts with the settings for you net connections that I wrote. It might help you to stabalize your connection. http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=63735&perpage=40&pagenumber=7 Its the second post down. Altimira
I was experiencing 10 times more lag at some times, i have cable. The problems were, 1 other programs were running...Kazaa is the main reason the lag was up (even if it wasnt dling ne thing) another thing was we have multiple computers on a router. so if you want good ping, turn off the other computers or make sure they are not activly on the net. $P4RK
I have lag, i'm on 56K and I should have a ping around 150-200 not 300-500. Cus when i'm on Counter-Strike I have good ping on diffrent servers, and on Jedi Knight 2, No matter what server, I lag like anything. Even on Jolt.co.uk servers... any help?? btw these scripts..how u use them?
Sutek
I had similar "connection interrupted" messages at first when I tried playing JK2 (long ago). I also use a cable connection and had my connection settings (in game) configured for cable. It turned out that my modem washaving fits at the data rate (for no apparent reason...it's still odd today) and the solution was the same as for Tribes2 - turn the connection settigns down to 56k settings. Instantly solved my problem. Very strange. Another possible is that the local cable router is behaving funny. try running some traces and see if you get intermittent packet loss. Jay Jay
So Sutek you saying that all I have to do to stop my lag is to turn my setting from DSL to 56k right. And I do that by going to MP and clicking Join game and then click 56k up at the upper right corner of the screen is that what you are saying. Sutek
I'm not saying it *will* solve it. I'm saying it *might* work, but yes, that is the suggestion gave (in my unique garbled way). Did it have any effect? (It doesn't seem to affect my gameplay/ping at all if you're worried, apart from letting me play)
Sith Maximus
Change your maxrate to 10000, 25000 is the default for cable/dsl. Might help. Also all scripts in the scripts forum....about 2/3 of the way through.
Jay Jay
Sith man I try that to and that only made the problem even worse that before. Maybe my computer isn't just cut out to run the game in Mp mode. I mean I run the Internet through a Network through my house and it only 1 mbps so maybe that the problem I plan to upgrade to a Linksys 4 port router but I'm low on fund this month you think that will work if I switched to the Linksys. Man I don't know I mean even the sricpts didn't work so i don't what to do I'm just going to give up. Thanks for all you help those who post all the info was really appericated. Sutek
I know it sounds silly, but what kind of cables connect your computer to the one running the internet connection? RJ45 or the Coax? How long is this cable (roughly)? Have you tried testing for packet loss between you and the server? Does your server run a firewall? (Mine doesn't lag me, but puts a slight delay on everything - I had saber fights where one guy would cream me because he blocked everything I did, and then I turned off the firewall and it was like he couldn't block a single blow). I'm just trying to get an idea of how your network is set up - whether something in that is causing your problem. Also, when you say "lag" what TYPE of lag do you mean? Do you mean the game jerks form point to point (high ping) or do you just get a permanent "Connection Interrupted" sign? Have you tried running Traceroutes to the game servers to see if there is a lot of packet loss/unusually high pings on the connection?
Jay Jay
Through out my house I ran just regular phone cable. From the computer that I have that acts as my server to the computer that I have JKII on is about 40 feet and is ran by connection of a regular phone cable. I run my network through a networking system called Intel Anypoint Home Network. I do have a packet loss from the server to the computer that runs JKII I just can't remember how to test it right now. I know I used the bandwidth test on cnet. The server ran about 940kbps and the other computer ran only 458kbps so there is a big loss of power there. Yes I currently am using a firewall it is the Zone Alarm system. I leave it on when playing JK2 because when I turn it off the Anypoint network acts crazy and locks things up. I really thing that the Anypoint Network system is my problem. The reason I say that is my brother has the same problem that i am having. But he recently upgraded to the Linksys router with direct ethernat connection to all of his computers and that increased his speed and got rid of the lag. When I mean "lag" I mean that the game contiunolsy has terrible a frame rate and everything reacts very slowly. But the thing that gets me is that I configured my Sp Mode to work just smoothly without any problem at all so I am just puzzled. I have the setting that I use when playing Mp up above this and when I tried to use the same setting that I used in Sp mode the lag was much worse that the settings I now use that is above this. No I haven't tried the last question Sutek. Do you think this info can help you any; if you need more just post it and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks for everything in advance
RedWolf4000
This might sound kinda funny. But i had pings of 450-600 on my modem, 56k, MSN service. I figured, hey, thats 56k baby. but i was wrong. I switched my modem with another 1 i had laying around, the one i had laying aroundw was a creative modem blaster 56k, and maaaaaaan, now i get 150-200ping in my games! i can actually sniper people! lol sometimes its just the modem. Jay Jay
I mean I have ping around 100-250 but I still get the slow down and the bad frame rate. So you suggest that if I change my DSL modem that will fix it or do you think I should get rid of my network and go from there???????????
