MP Icarus Scripting

Rammage

Recommended Posts

I'm a relative noob, so this may have already been addressed. But, here goes.

Does anyone know if Multi-Player supports Icarus scripting? So far, I haven't seen any Raven MP maps that use scripting, and I've not heard people talk about scripting in MP maps. I wanted to use scripting to manipulate brushes during game-play. The reason I ask is that GtkRadiant 1.2.8 (enabled for JK2) does not seem to have the target_scriptrunner entity found in SP maps.

Any help would be great! Also, any links to sites or threads that could offer some help would be appreciated as well! Thanks!

You can e-mail me at ebrummel@mindspring.com

I think there are a couple persons or groups working on bringing

SP elements such as scripting and NPCs to multiplayer but i dont

think there has been any serious progress in a while.

A month or two ago someone had screens of a bunch of rodians with blasters

that had been spawned into a multiplayer game. (yeh and i meen npcs not bots)

The dream of online singleplayer style missions if alive in the community

but its just that no one has fugured out how to do it yet.

(or if they know how havent done the massive amount of work required yet :p)

Right under your nose ;)

We are currently building a co-op mod that allows you to play the single player experience using the multiplayer code. Meaning that you can play as kyle and have a friend that is helping you.

We are still considering if we will allow you to play the opponents as well.

And we do support the use of icarus scripting. Once it is done, it will be open source btw, so you can use it for your own mod.

That's awesome, Unikorn! You guys ROCK.

It's great. Earlier on, I went to your site and was looking around and was thinking to myself, "these guys are the answer to my problem." Then I check the the thread and low and behold, one of the WLS guys responded to my thread! :D

I can't wait, but if what Joben says is true, I just may have to.

I don't suppose you'd be willing to release the ICARUS loader, would you?

Everything will be open source, the only thing we want to ensure first is that we release co-op first, it would be kind of dumb to release everything, just to find out that another mod team picks it up, and finishes it before we do. If you are working for a mod team, let me know, and we will see what we can do.

I must add though that the recent events in the Return to the Jedi Mod thread ( http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=72998 ) have made me reconsider that option. Appearantly helping people these days gets you flamed.

I totally understand if you don't want to give up something you've worked on for a long time just so that some jerk-off can take it, and call it his own.

Still, I'll tell you a bit about myself and why I'd like to use scripting in my MP maps.

Myself: So far I'm a relative JK2 mapping noob. I know Radiant relatively well as I've played around with it for a couple of years. I've done some incomplete Q3 maps, and actually just finished a RTCW MP map. I'm an independent mapper --the hours are better that way. :D

Why I'd like MP scripting: I've noticed that MP JK2 maps were relatively static. There are few moving platforms, rotating brushes, etc. My map idea is as follows. Ever see Flash Gordon the movie? Remember the platform that Flash and some other guy were fighting on? When they moved to one side of the platform, it started tilting in that direction. Also, spikes would come out of it. I'd like to make a similar platform (minus the spikes) for a duel map, but without scripting, it seems impossible. With MP scripting, the possibilities seem endless.

...I have already told you that helping us isn't what irritated us. It's the tone of your post.

I'm sure if anyone has time to go down a couple of threads and read the thread, you will see what I mean.
