Replacing one NPC skin with another in SP

OK, just something I'd like to do in the future...i think it's been done before, so I guess that means it's possible, which s always a good start :) Does anyone know the simplest way of just replacing one NPC's skin with another (like for example replacing a stromtrooper skin with a battledroid skin) in SP maps? It's gonna be useful for introducing new characters etc. Any help appreciated :)

thats pretty easy, all you have to do is switch the graphics files, but its

kinda messy for a number of reasons so isnt a good idea on a large scale.

(going back and playing the Raven SP mission over again and finding out that all the friendly Jedi have turned into Jango Fett and try to kill you would be a good example.)

 

you can actualy add new npcs WITHOUT replacing old ones

 

Here is Emon's explanation of doing the latter. Note: yer gona need to basic understanding

of the JK2 file structure, .pk3 creation etc to get this working.

Not to mention Radiant if you want to be able to put them in maps.

I think I might try and take the easy option on this for now :) How do you actually set up the pk3 so that when downloaded one npc skin is exchanged for another in the map? I realise if I do it this way it will muck around with the single player missions, but I guess people can delete the map if they want to play through the SP game again....keeping at least one copy of the map stored on disk in a fireproof safe!

Kengo, make your whole project a mod if you're worried about the sp game getting screwed up. A perfect example of what I mean is the Tavion map. You install it in your GameData folder with a gamestart.cfg file. If you don't have Tavion you should download it and check it out. The other way you were thinking of is going to piss off a lot of people.
