mli Posted August 25, 2002 Posted August 25, 2002 I finished my map and made it a pk3. Then I put it in my base directory and when I go to multiplayer and select it, all the shaders are wrong. My skybox produces a HOM effect and my gold shader doesn't show up at all. What's up?
mli Posted August 26, 2002 Author Posted August 26, 2002 Please help me because none of my pk3'd maps work so I can't distribute them...
giganerd Posted August 26, 2002 Posted August 26, 2002 Did you use custom textures and/or shaders? If you did, you need to make sure that you packed them (in the proper directories of course) in your .pk3 file.
mli Posted August 26, 2002 Author Posted August 26, 2002 Yup, they're paked. Can I send you the pk3 and check it out?
Andy867 Posted August 26, 2002 Posted August 26, 2002 usually the hall of mirrors effect is based on the leak in your sky, because what is happening is that data is escaping the confines of the map into "THE VOID" which since the void has no solid shape, it gets repeating textures over.. and over. and over, and you get the point. so when compiling your map, like in JKRadiant, check the status box and also your map folder to see if it is producing a file called "mapname.LIN" if that is the case, there should also be like a red line in your map where the leak is occuring. And when packing textures, you will need to create folder under your hard drive directory so it assumes the right sub-folders. Because if you keep in your program files\Star Wars JK II JEDI OUTCAST folder\gamedata\base foler\textures or whatever, then when you pack them, it won't just back them in the textures folder, but it will remember the "program files\Star Wars JK II JEDI OUTCAST folder\gamedata\base foler" folders as well. so if your textures are called test you would make a folder theoretically in your c: OR d: called textures/test then you would add the files from there, so they get packed right, but if you prefer, you can send the files and the map to me just to see whats happening exactly. and see what I can do to correct it. dmccarthy100@charter.net is my email and make sure to mark the subject line as TEST MAP so I know what the email is for:) I hope we can get this map working for ya.
mli Posted August 26, 2002 Author Posted August 26, 2002 Nope there's no .lin file. I e-mailed u the link to the pk3 and I attached the .map file. And thank you for all the help.
Gohan_Trunksss Posted August 26, 2002 Posted August 26, 2002 Hey andy can u explain to me why, when i have a skybox with the walls and roof it wont compile but when i take the roof of the sky box of it compiles fine? but i need the roof for the final compile so the screen doesnt do the freezeing this when u look up.
Andy867 Posted August 26, 2002 Posted August 26, 2002 Have you caulked the outside of the map near the skybox. also be sure to check for any leaks that could occur.... Even the slightest misalignment will cause major problems in compiling. Are you using JKRadiant or GTK? Also, MLI, I received your email, but when checking it through yahoo, it "misinterpreted" the map file, and coverted it to a text format of the map file, so could you re-send it in a zip file please.? and I can get to working on it tomorrow when I am also working to get the 70 or so files posted onto the http://www.jediknightii.net Files Section.
Gohan_Trunksss Posted August 26, 2002 Posted August 26, 2002 GTKRadient and no i didnt use caulk for the sky box
mli Posted August 26, 2002 Author Posted August 26, 2002 thanks for crapping in my thread gohan Anyway, I e-mailed it.
Andy867 Posted August 26, 2002 Posted August 26, 2002 Hey MLI, i've been doing different tests and I tried using some basic skyboxes after caulking them, and when doing that, It got rid of the HOM effect, but when I get the Map texutres, i will apply them, and go from there.. by the way, the map looks great. nice eye for detail
mli Posted August 27, 2002 Author Posted August 27, 2002 So the skybox should be auto caulked? Well you see, I run the game and I type in /devmap kami and it works fine. Shaders and all work perfect. But when I try to run it from the game by choosing it from the menu the shaders don't work. And those shaders are the ones in the pk3. Are my shaders messed up? BTW: All the textures, shaders and everything are in the pk3 link in the first e-mail. So you can just extract the textures and shaders folder into your base directory. Then the .map file will be textured.
Andy867 Posted August 27, 2002 Posted August 27, 2002 well, what was weird is when I used the auto-caulk, and applied a skybox, it eliminated the home effect. but like I said before, the pk3 on the website you gave me was corrupted, so I wasn't actually able to use the shaders just yet. but if you could email me the shaders in a zip file, that might help. and I will check out the problem when loading from the menu list...
Gohan_Trunksss Posted August 27, 2002 Posted August 27, 2002 andy i used caulk and then added sky to the face of the caulked brush and it still doesnt compile unless i delete the roof of the skybox then it will compile. any ideas?
mli Posted August 27, 2002 Author Posted August 27, 2002 Alright, I e-mailed to you the textures, shaders, and the link to the env folder zip.
Wes Marrakesh Posted August 27, 2002 Posted August 27, 2002 can I have a look at the stuff? wesmarrakesh@earthlink.net
mli Posted August 27, 2002 Author Posted August 27, 2002 umm, I'm gonna wait for Andy to reply with the verdict and if he can't tell what's up then I'll send the map to you.
mli Posted August 29, 2002 Author Posted August 29, 2002 Andy, have you figured out what's wrong with the map? If not then can I send it to Wes to see if he can figure it out?
