Trouble with new 40.41 dets

I had some problems with them (xp) but they are all fixed now. I made sure that I had an actual driver for my monitor, not plug-n-play, and then used Riva Tuner to fix the refresh rate bugs. Now all is well and the drivers have provided me with a 20% increase.

23.11? He needs a serious upgrade!

I like 98 but xp does so much more and is far more stable for my raid setup and my server. No ping problemns here...150 is the highest ping I ususally get and most of the time about 40 to 60. As for my server....smooth sailing for 8 players! What type of card do u have anyway? I use a ti so the advances in the drivres for shaders is a great benifit to me as well as the speed.

i just want to tell you. At my job we run serveral test when we build pc's for our customers, and, stick with the previous drivers from nvidia.com. I used the 40.41 for a while and yea they were bug free for me but, after a few temp tests, we soon saw that the card runs much hotter with the new drivers, and there are also some unnecesarry crashes. I think when there drivers become full version drivers, instead of beta, they will be a little slower, maybe a 10 percent performance increase instead of a 20 percent, and be more stable. Right now, i wouldnt recommend them. If you have any ti line card 3 and up, you dont really need the extra performance in jk2, as much as you want it, so just wait a month.

New drivers are often fairly flaky, which is I why I'm leery of doling out "update your drivers" as advice too often. I remember having some irritating problems with the next drivers above 23.11, and so I stuck with the ones that gave me no problems at all.

Maximus - I've only got GeForce2 MX cards in both machines (had to go budget on the graphics card for the more powerful machine :< ) and the fact you have a Ti explains why new drivers are worthwhile for you, but not for me (all the oomph has been wrung out of the 2MX drivers). For me, newer drivers have little visible effect.

After i built my system:

Athlon xp 1800+

MSI KT3 Ultra2 mainboard

512mb ddr pc2100 crucial

20gig WD 7200rpm HD

XFX GeForce4 ti4200 64mb

onboard 6.1 sound

17" Samtron monitor 75V

I didnt really have much more $$ to buy a good case, so my case is some half blue half white case that has plenty of bays, for 3 3.5 devices and 4 5.25 devices, but, it only have one intake fan spot, and one rear fan spot :( so circulation is not so great. I plan on buying that top of the line solid copper with dual copper pipes heatsink from coolermaster, that should help CPU temps. but otherewise im runnin hot chips.

Ouch...I have been in that spot. But no one says that u cannot mod the case that you have. Mine came with one front and one rear fan. Two hours and a 3" hole saw solved the problems. Now Its two in the front, side, and top as well as one in the rear! Its ease and cost effective. Got to http://www.bestbyte.net and look at the four pin top motor fans. They are good performers for the money and a ten spot with a trip to the shack will make a fanbus for them. All of my fans run off one 12v line and run great! Cpu is run with an Arkua 7228 heatsink and a 60mm 50cfm delta. Cpu temps even in my hot office are right around 102, this is from the temp monitor on my abit board which is bent up to the bottom of the cpu so fairly accurate. Not bad for only %60 for the case with a 400psu and all the fan stuff. Now I run an 430 Entermax unit so even more power for future upgrades!

Thanks. Maybe i will put some 80mm fans in the side of my case. Hey, about that copper heatsink with liqid filled copper pipes, i got one, for $35. Its a Coolermaster HHC-001. Its fully copper, with a 6800 rpm fan that is really quite for its speed. it has twin copper pipes that take heat from bottom of heatsink and bring it to the top. my temps with my amd retail heatsink were 48c at idol, and 55c after gaming with, well, jk2 for an hour. Now, my idol is 31c, and my gaming is 40c. WHOA This heatsink rocks, i reccommend it!
