ShaderWriter
All: If anyone has run into this problem or can offer me suggestions, please let me know. I'd appreciate it. I'm using the version 1.1 of JK2 that is the version when I bought the game. Everything works fine except that I don't get the new improvements and bug fixes. When I install either patch (1.03 or 1.04), the game plays fine and I get the fixes, but the overhead light that illuminations your character weapon model or your character (in 3rd person) is gone. He is shadowed out. I've tried loading in safe mode to no avail. It definitely has to do with a video problem but I don't know what. Specs: Dell 8200, P4 2.0Ghz GF4Ti4200 64MB RAM (using Det 4.0 drivers, my original 2.91 drivers that came with the Dell give this problem as well) 512DRAM WINXP Any help would be appreciated.. -M
Sith Maximus
Not sure if 4.0 drivers mean the new 40 series? First of all try this. Uninstall the game. Defrag your drive. Now uninstall your vcard drivers and reboot. Install the drivers, but make sure that you are using an admin account. If it asks to overwrite files say YES, if it gives you the digital signature message select to install anyway. Now reboot. Go to http://www.guru3d.com and get Riva Tuner. Unzip it and select the exe. It will build driver information database. Now use the 60hz refresh rate fix. Read it you will understand. Now goto your vcard tabs and under them do the following. Select to turn off fsaa. In open gl select 32bit color, vsync off and 8tap af. Hit apply and reboot. Now reinstall jk2 but make sure you do not use any of your old cfgs. Now set it up and see if it runs. If it does not you could have a faulty vcard. Contact dell and bitch until they give u a new one. Hope it helps!
Sutek
Apparently the Detonator 40 series drivers are somewhat dodgy for JK2, try and find an earlier set of Nvidia drivers to test. Other than that, you could try altering the graphics options and seeing of any of those correct the problem (specificall the Detailed Shaders option maybe?) I dunno, I'm kind of grasping at straws now.
ShaderWriter
Yea, I tried a lower driver number (29.11), and that doesn't seem to work. I did try loading up in Safe Mode, but that didn't work either. I'll wait till I'm ready for MP to delve into this further. In the meantime, I'm content with what I have now. Which is - everything works! Just no new features.. -M
ShaderWriter
Whahoo!! I got it to work! Here's what I think fixed the problem. I installed the RivaTuner 30.xx - 40.xx patch. But before I did this, I installed the 30.81 drivers (I believe) and I then loaded up JK2 only to find that it worked but the gameplay was slower. I then decided to use the RivaTuner and install the 40.41 drivers after that. Everything works now with the new patch 1.04 and the speed is up again. Thanks! -M
