Kjølen
An interesting idea. As conscious man was created to make mistakes, but what about subconscious man? God created man to be imperfect we know this. But if we're not conscious of what we're doing then we're not in full control then, sort of like instinct. So subconscious may be the link to perfection? As I have noticed while picking up my abandon Trombone since i hardly played during summer. Yes I was TERRIBLE. I was trying to get the Monkey Island theme right again. I was always making mistakes. ALWAYS. Then, when a commercial pops up that i want to see. I forget about the trombone. When i snapped to after the commercial I noticed that I had been playing the Monkey Island theme perfectly the whole time. Which makes sense. Mistakes are sometimes caused by consciousness thinking "Uh-oh better do good, NO STOP THATS NOT RIGHT! Oops...." So the whole time i was terribly play trombone i switch to perfect when I'm not paying attention to it. And this was not just today, infact it happen many times and not just on the trombone but everyday life. Interesting eh? Discuss.
Guybrush122
interesting.....though subconsciousness may be the link to perfection, its certainly the link to utter boredom sort of like the garden of eve. you know....sacrificing perfection for greater experiences like, if everthing was subconcious you wouldnt be aware of anything....love, beauty, emotion....etc.....thus making you programmed, fake, and not really alive
Deadmeat_X
I don't think watching a commercial while making music is really making music with your subconcience, it's just concentrating on other things. However, it's true that sometimes you make less mistakes when you don't concentrate on NOT making mistakes. Example: for a test, a person is really stressed. He spends 5 hours on learning, and when he's making the test, he's trembling all over. He gets a D. Another person (me, often) learns for 30 minutes, does the test relaxed, with the tought 'wathever', and gets an A. Being nervous never really helps, and if you really concentrate when making music, you're kinda too nervous to play good. However, this is not the case with all music. If I tried to play a really tough piece while concentrating on something else, it doesn't work. The harder the music, the more you need your head while playing. This sort of proves the opposite of your statement. So no, I don't think humans are better when they are working in a subcontious way. However, think about the following: is 'not thinking' inspirating? In other words, do thoughts block the way to creativity? IMO: yes. Some of the best songs I've written were born while I was doing nothing at all. BTW Why is this forum so slow all of the sudden?

Well if you try and consentrate on something else then your still paying attention a bit.... If you let your mind just wander while your in the middle of playing and acually wandering and not just trying not to pay attention it could help. BTW Why is this forum so slow all of the sudden? No kidding... They think it's a script error or something wrong with all the banners...
